Talk:Fruitcake (disambiguation)

Fruitcake as 'a derogatory term for a male homosexual'.

edit

I've removed this, as it is unsourced, and possibly misleading. In the contexts I've seen it used as a derogatory term, it is intended as a synonym for 'a mad person'. This needs proper research, but a quick check on answers.com gives the same meaning:

1. A heavy spiced cake containing nuts and candied or dried fruits.
2. Slang. A crazy or an eccentric person: "a fruitcake under the delusion that he was Saint Nicholas" (John Strahinich).

Unless anyone objects, or can provide evidence for the 'homosexual' meaning, I'll add the 'crazy' definition instead. AndyTheGrump (talk) 14:34, 28 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

There have been references in film to that type of a meaning too. I recall in the movie Remember the Titans, the football player portrayed by Kip Pardue was referred to as a fruitcake during the scene he is introduced. See the intro of Fruit (slang) and wikt:fruitcake. This usage is very familiar to me and should be added to the article. --Florian Blaschke (talk) 02:37, 14 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
