Eschatology-oriented edits

edit

A lot of the content of all these eschatology pages was getting duplicated, because each of the views had to be heard on each of the pages. I've moved much of the interpretations to their respective view pages (for example, taken the Futurist view of the Book of Revelation and put it on the Futurism (Christianity) page), in the hopes of minimizing duplication, keeping source pages unimpeded by eschatological disputes, and making it more clear what comprises each of the eschatologies. I've moved some of the comparisons among these views to the Christian eschatology page, so that the core differences can be contrasted in one place. Skinrider (talk) 14:27, 28 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Sources and editing needed

edit

This article is full of doctrinal claims that are without a proper source. I am currently working on locating valid reliable sources for most of it. If you're adding to the article or editing it, please make sure you have a source. Avoid primary sources, as that is more OR, which is really where this entire article stands right now. For example, where it mentions Irenaeus's position, the source is his own "Against Heresies." It would be better if you could locate a secondary source such as a commentary or textbook that states that. Similarly, the list of "proponents" essentially cites the person's own work as the source of them being a proponent of futurism. In this case, that would be OR because (1) it's citing the entire body of work making it tedious to verify, and (2) the person is unlikely to say, "I'm a Dispensational Futurist." Lastly, page numbers are needed. For example, Dwight Pentecost's entire Things to Come is listed to source two sentences describing the biblical parenthesis and some other items. Don't just come in and drop an entire book as the source. Butlerblog (talk) 17:50, 18 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

I also have a problem with WP:Notabilty for the proponents section: it seems that most of them are associated with two institutions: Fuller and Dallas Theological Seminary, which makes them a group rather than being independent proponents.Rick Jelliffe (talk) 02:22, 26 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Article specific to Futurism

edit

I removed a recent edit about Antichrist citing the Catechism of the Catholic Church. While there is certainly crossover in views regarding eschatology, and futurism does have origins in the Catholic Church (Ribera), the section it was placed in was wrapping up discussion of rapture views, which is not associated with Catholic doctrine. The article is definitely a bit muddled at present and needs some work, but that work needs to be careful not to move it the other direction (i.e. make it more muddled). There probably needs to be a separate section on history of the viewpoint, which would be a good opportunity to discuss Ribera and subsequent Catholic teaching. Book of Revelation

edit

I renamed the section "Book of Revelation" to reflect its contexts. Which then made it obvious that the whole treatment of Pre- Post etc millennialism is largely duplicated later in the section on Tribulation. The two should be merged. Rick Jelliffe (talk) 02:22, 26 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
