Translation issues
editI'm not too happy with "key player" as a translation for the German "Spielmacher". Also, I'm not sure if there is a better or (more) idiomatic expression for "aus der Tiefe des Raumes", which I translated as "from the depth of the pitch". Any suggestions? --Cancun771 09:14, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
I would translate "Spielmacher" as "play maker" and "aus der Tiefe des Raumes" as "from deep" or "from deep within his own half of the pitch". --Bekant 12:07, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
Hearts of Oak Manager?
editThere is a reference to him managing Ghanaian team, Hearts of Oak, on their page, though no timescale is given. Can anyone verify this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by AbrahamCat (talk • contribs) 13:21, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
- This is a gossip with a germ of truth within. During the WC2010, in one of his last appearances as a TV pundit, Netzer told this story. He once was invited to Ghana, being told that he was extremely worshipped by the Ghanian football nation. When he arrived there, he noticed, that he was literally reckoned to be a real magician, as he had been able to hit a corner kick directly into the goal. So he was demanded to teach the Ghanian players his magic art. Initially he thought, that he was invited just to be honoured, so the situation was very embarrassing. (In a German forum they made kind of a live chat during this TV broadcast an the story is mentioned there.) As far as I remember, Netzer added, that he refused to do so, as he feared the consequences, when the Ghanians would realize that he is not a real magician, but "only" an outstanding footballer. --Eberhard Cornelius (talk) 14:29, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
DFB Pokal final match in 1973
editThe final of the 1973 Pokal was actually his last game for Gladbach. The article reads as if he continued to play there afterwards. Shouldn't the the text regarding this game be at the end of the Mönchengladbach section? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.1.31.196 (talk) 23:30, 26 June 2012 (UTC)
"(...)managed to sign famous coaches like Ernst Happel and later Branko Zebec"
edit"Anders herum wird ein Schuh draus", as we say in German. Zebec came first. He took over in the World Cup summer 1978, won the German championship after his 1st year in Hamburg and was suspended halfway through the 1980/81 season, due to problems arising from his alcoholism. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.37.19.253 (talk) 17:43, 29 October 2015 (UTC)
