Dismissal from Texas?
editThe page for Tenure mentions the 'notorious case' of his dismissal from Texas after 19 years of service, but I don't see any mention here. Does anyone know what this refers to? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.75.80.96 (talk) 17:44, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
- From Review of R. L. Moore: Mathematician and Teacher. By John Parker. Mathematical Association of America, Washington, DC, 2005, by David E. Zitarelli, American Mathematical Monthly 113:2, 2006, pp. 187-192 [1] on p. 190:
- "... Halsted’s relentless promotion of Moore for a faculty position at Texas, fueled by RLM’s novel proof of a redundancy in the geometry of Hilbert, became the last straw in Halsted’s strained relationship with the regents and led to his firing."
- A bio page at UT Austin only says that Halsted "resigned" [2]. Jmath666 (talk) 20:04, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
- The book has the info, added in this edit to the article. Jmath666 (talk) 00:30, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
Mustache
editThe mustache geometry story is new to me. Is it in one of the referenced sources? Neomon (talk) 18:27, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
