"Somebody's Watching Me"

The recording used in the GEICO commercials is not a remix. It's clearly a new (or different) recording; the singer featured is definitely NOT Michael Jackson. Misterdoe (talk) 21:21, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

Gecko's accent

This was discussed at the helpdesk a couple weeks ago ([1]), but I also just noticed this posting on Language Log, in which Mark Liberman says the gecko speaks in Estuary English, not Cockney (although admittedly they have lots of similarities). rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 12:24, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

I have no personal experience in languages/accents, but the Estuary English article suggests that dialect is a SE English regional dialect, of which Cockney would seem to be a subset (assuming it's officially recognized at all). So... I'm not sure it's contradictory. I seem to recall reading that the actor they currently use is Cockney (i.e., a Londoner). John2510 (talk) 17:10, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

Corporate Commercials

Why is there no mention (at least that i noticed) of the Gecko working in the office environment? Floyd09 (talk) 02:24, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

When is it all going to go away?

That is all that needs to be posted here. BTW I got a quote from this company and it was roughly 2X what I currently pay.Guess where the money comes from to pay for all of these obnoxious ads? —Preceding unsigned comment added by BrianAlex (talkcontribs) 17:59, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

Gecko's Name

This page claims the Gecko's name is Martin. However, in a recent commercial, he receives a name-tag. A close look confirms the first name on the tag ends in an "e". Is "Martin" a pseudonym? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.185.131.44 (talk) 02:26, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

The GEICO Wikipedia entry uses this name... but I can't find any source for it (other than various internet mentions that appear to have been based on the Wikipedia entry). I've never seen a name associated with him. Also, I thought the name tag just said "Gecko" or "The Gecko." John2510 (talk) 15:36, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

WP:COPYLINK forbids adding links to YouTube unless it is explicitly clear that there is no copyright violation. In violation of WP:COPYLINK, Fat&Happy (talk · contribs) has added multiple links to YouTube, claiming that the videos were posted to YouTube by Geico. Youtube has millions of copyright violations. Fat&Happy needs to post here on this talk page his evidence that Geico uploaded the videos to YouTube before the links are restored. Cresix (talk) 03:54, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

Is original research and personal re-writing of policy statements permissible here? Because WP:COPYLINK makes no such hard-and-fast statement. Nor does WP:YOUTUBE, although it does caution against the possibility of copyvios.
OK, let's see if we can get a consensus here.
Is this YouTube user page faurly obviously sponsored by GEICO?
Several (not all) of the links originally deleted en masse by Cresix were posted by that obviously official GEICO user. Some of the links, originally added by who knows who, were not. The mass deletion without checking individual status on YouTube was irresponsible, and I reverted, also en masse. I have no objection to deleting individual links which are questionable, and normally also insist on strict adherence to verifiability standards, but deleting one individual description of a commercial, from a page containing dozens of them, as being "not important", then coming back and singling out that same (restored) description, also from among dozens, as being unsourced, followed by a blanket deletion of all links to YouTube with no attempt to validate their individual usability, strikes me as being somewhat pointy and disruptive. Fat&Happy (talk) 05:04, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
Fat&Happy, you have provided NO evidence that Geico uploaded ANY of the videos. I could create a Youtube user named "Official Microsoft User", but that doesn't mean I have any relationship with Microsoft. I'm waiting for your evidence, other than your personal opinion. And none of this issue has anything to do with WP:OR; I haven't added any content based on my own research; I've simply removed links according to policy. I'll respect any clear consensus here, so let's see what, if anything, happens. Thank you. Cresix (talk) 16:58, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
Evidence, in the form of an acknowledged link from GEICO's primary web site. Fat&Happy (talk) 17:24, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

OK, finally. Thank you. Now, I will not object to those Youtube links from that user only. I hope you will agree that the remainder are WP:COPYLINK vios. Otherwise we'll have to wait for a consensus that may never occur. Cresix (talk) 17:27, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

Yes, uploads by others than one of the four acknowledged user accounts (most of the commercials are from the single plain "GEICO" one) would be prima facie copyvios. I assume you will now self-revert the unnecessary deletions? Fat&Happy (talk) 18:08, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
Done. I hope all of us will be as zealous about removing the copyvio links as we are about keeping the few that might be legitimate. Cresix (talk) 18:55, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

That's Amazing!

I don't currently see it, but Geico started a "That's Amazing" campaign. One with a mermaid, that I recall. Don't know enough about it to add it, but it should be there. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jamintime (talkcontribs) 22:46, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

Crusin' USA

Why is the Gecko's sojurn across the US not mentioned? I think it should be listed in the article, especially the most recent one with the Roadrunner and Wile E. Coyote. Jdaniels15 (talk) 14:14, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

Copying the Gecko--Comparethemarket.com/ Aleksandr Orlov (advertising)?

Is it worth cross-referencing how the GEICO Gecko has influenced similar insurance advertising in the UK (Comparethemarket.com/ Aleksandr Orlov (advertising))?.

In this case it's for an multi-company insurance comparison website.
