Free?

edit

Why is GMX mail free? What's the catch?

There isn't a catch. It's simply free, like gmail or hotmail. Even better, it's independent. I've been using the GMX FreeMail service for several years in Europe. Because of its popularity, GMX is able to gain enough revenue with advertising on the login portal, which also includes daily news. In the English version there is currently no advertising and no premium services (like expanded storage) which do cost money, but these will presumably be added later.Dpsteel (talk) 10:35, 6 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

1 The Way they make it free. Is that You only have 2 GB. Of cloud and email storage that are both shared. And it can Only have 50 MB For Attachments for the emails Unless you Pay premium In that case You can increase those numbers By paying premium But by doing that they are earning more money. From you, so hope that helps:) War-da-no (talk) 13:06, 10 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

IMAP and POP3 is not included in the freemail. only for paying. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.78.70.136 (talk) 20:02, 18 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Seems to me that IMAP4 and POP3 access are allowed for any account. Could be mistaken, but from what I'm reading, it looks like it's offered to all - paying or not. Exigence (talk) 23:49, 27 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
No, i have GMX Mail, free POP3 and IMAP, mabe your are thinking that yours has to pay so they all have to pay?--Conor Fallon (talk) 17:55, 26 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
the german free service (gmx.net, gmx.at, gmx.ch,..) does not include IMAP, the english version (gmx.com)includes IMAP for free F.H. 80.109.16.5 (talk) 20:20, 31 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
The English service - or at least the account I have just opened from London, UK - is not ad-free now; adverts started to appear as soon as I sent my first email using it. I have removed the sentence: "One of the more unique elements of their service is that its ad-free interface looks like a professional corporate panel." FrankSier (talk) 15:02, 26 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Before 2002, even the gmx.net webmail service supported several languages up until GMX decided it wasn't economic to maintain. I suspect that's the catch -- one day it will go away if there's not enough business (though we're past due for it if the same schedule repeats.) rakslice (talk) 10:17, 11 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Neutrality

edit

- I think this article is more an ad than an article, e.g. "clutter- and ad-free interface" "easy drag-and drop.." and so on. Furthermore, the article has no critical view on GMX. 80.208.108.28 (talk) 06:59, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I agree that this is ad-like, however a critical view is not necessary. Maybe nobody cares enough to make a notable criticism. Still things like clutter-free are highly ad-ish. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.82.227.246 (talk) 17:01, 4 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

We could take the interface of their German page, gmx.de, for a start. For example, it's as cluttered and ad-ridden as it gets and if it supports drag-and-drop, I don't know where they hid that feature. If the description here is true of their English pages, then their German one is the polar opposite. 217.95.84.105 (talk) 20:01, 3 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

I tried it and clutter-free is actually a good way to describe it. It's doesn't overwhelm you with information.117.207.239.66 (talk) 07:42, 7 May 2013 (UTC)MapoloReply

this article needs a lot ... Not critical or something, even it's not only positiv in the media... It was sue for it's methods and so on, so you could make a point about that ... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.219.207.113 (talk) 20:03, 13 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Unless anyone can point out to specific parts of the article that "read like an advertisement", I will remove that template in the next couple of days as I can't see any issues with the current redaction: it describes faithfully and objectively the subject matter. There seems to have been one or two minor issues with gratuitous use of superlatives back in 2008 but those seem to have been removed a long time ago. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.27.134.35 (talk) 13:21, 3 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Password recovery

edit

There was a section, written in poor English, ranting about there not being a password recovery link on the webpage. I have just checked on http://www.gmx.com/ and underneath the login form there is a link ("Do you need any help?") leading to the password recovery form.

The German site, http://www.gmx.net/ also provides a password recovery link ("Passwort vergessen?") so not sure where our esteemed contributor might have left his glasses.

In any case, I have removed that section in its entirety. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.14.104.195 (talk) 05:22, 8 November 2012 (UTC) GMX service are unfortunately sometimes blocked. Either vandalism or just bad form

edit

I've removed 75.106.26.209's edit (that editor's sole Wikipedia contribution) of December last year alleging "It also allows users to send scam emails about "lottery winnings" to unsuspecting people. This domain is used for 40% of Scam Emails." Unsubstantiated, and probably libellous.

If anyone has anything further (with sources) I'd suggest raising it here, not on the main article.

I have never posted here so I hope I am doing this right. While it might have been put in improperly and the percentage just pulled out of thin air, GMX IS where I get most of the scams and money laundering schemes sent from. I just got three more today from a GMX account and that is what prompted me to come here to do some research. I tried to go to the GMX site to find where to report the emails but could find nothing. At least every other free email site that I have visited has a place to report spam & scams. 24.113.175.145 (talk) 21:07, 5 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Clean-up needed

edit

This article really needs a clean up. From what I see gmx.com and gmx.net both offer file sharing via the GMX media center as well as virus and spam protection. Fetching external mail accounts should be the same for both services. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.201.218.180 (talk) 17:43, 5 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
