Red links
edit(Originally posted by I@n on user talk page, moved here for debate.)
Links to non-existent articles ("redlinks") may be included only when an editor is confident that an encyclopedia article could be written on the subject.
Adding links to articles not yet written should be done with care. There is no need to brainstorm all occurrences of the page title and create redlinks to articles that are unlikely ever to be written, or likely to be removed as insufficiently notable topics.
- Gabba (musician), a guitarist in the 1980s streetpunk band Chaos UK, now in the 2006 band ASBO Youth
- Chaos UK and ASBO youth are both redlinked so I hardly think the guitarist is going to get a page soon. See WP:MUSIC - would he be notable per those standards? If so, write an article.
- Armando Gabba, a baritone opera singer who performed in 1984 with Renato Bruson, Edita Gruberová, Brigitte Fassbaender, and Neil Shicoff in Rigoletto, and is still active
- Far too much detail as per WP:MOSDAB. There should only be enough so the user can disambiguate. Armando Gabba, a baritone opera singer would suffice.
- The Georgia Allman Brothers Band Association is hardly notable and almost certainly would not survive a RfA if an article did appear
- Gabba clothing: I'd just concede that one in the hope an article appears soon.
I'm reverting accordingly. -- I@n ≡ talk 13:51, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
---
Since you have just found out about WP:MOSDAB after my informing you about it ten minutes ago (diff), I think you should read it more carefully before using it for wikilawyering, and think that dab pages aren't articles but mere temporary navigational tools for lost readers.
- The redlink Gabba (musician) provides a HTML comment to All Music Guide, with full biography and notability of the band, which would pass WP:BAND -- sooner or later a fan will make their article. The 2006 revival is even more liable to have erroneous links made to his name.
- Armando Gabba is a redlink, and thus more wordy detail is provided about him until it gets a blue link and can be made as concise as blue links. It's intended to be useful for the reader. He's a notable international baritone, more active in live concerts than CD recordings.
- The Georgia Allman Brothers Band Association seems notable enough for a mere one-liner in a dab page, and I don't think an article would be deleted since they're the only one. "When in doubt, keep".
- Gabba clothing: funnily enough, among all those you had deleted, that's the one I had compromised to not restore in my later edit -- and now you want to keep it. Since it's a brand name of a Danish fashion maker, wich seems to have little to none international export, this one seems currently unlikely to get its own article on the English WP (for the Yab Yum company, even less for one of its trademarks) in the future. But if you want to add it back, why not.
Last but not least, this is "only" a disambiguation page, not a real article. It's supposed to be useful for people sent here in error, as well as being an easy way of finding wrong links (What Links Here) and fixing them, so that nobody is sent here any more.
Documenting the most probable redlinks is also done so as to:
- At least inform the reader that, "sorry, we don't have an article yet about this topic you wanted to read about, but you can create it if you wish".
- Provide the reader with a modicus of information about the article we don't have, and some blue links to articles that may also have the information he wanted, or external links to it.
In its current state, the page is very short, sorted, and dosn't suffer from redlinks. Only dab pages with three screenfuls of information need to be much more picky about redlinks.
So I'm reverting accordingly. -- 62.147.112.36 14:27, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
- For the record, I can assure you that I have read WP:MOSDAB and was aware of it long before you pointed it out. I grant that I did err with the bolding though. -- I@n ≡ talk 14:40, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
- I don't feel that strongly, but I am not sure that Armando Gabba is notable. There are no newspaper reviews of his singing on the web, which is an indication. So, unless someone is planning to write an article on him, I wouldn't redlink him. Just my 2 cents/pence. -- Ssilvers 15:27, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
- In my view, Gabba (musician), Armando Gabba, and [GABBA]] should all be deleted from this page. It is difficult to imagine an article on any of them that does not run afoul of WP:NOT. Marc Shepherd 16:18, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
- In my view, Armando Gabba is probably notable -- BUT all that stuff should not be here. An entry in a disambiguation link that wraps to a second line is a travesty. The poster up top who suggested "Armando Gabba, a baritone opera singer" has it exactly right. If you want more, start an article. It's not that hard to start a stub. \ Fnarf999 \ talk \ contribs \ 18:01, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
Another review
edit- The guitarist: the link provided [1] is for the band Chaos UK, and not the musician. He has a one word mention in that article and would fail WP:MUSIC miserably. The band on the other hand would be OK and perhaps he could be mentioned in that future article
- The baritone: the link provided [2] shows Armando to be one of 55 performers in a album called Everybody's Opera Album and one of 12 performers in a CD called Verdi: Rigoletto. He appeared in Puccini's Tosca at the Teatro Regio di Parma, Italy, in 1993 (review). This lists 4 other albums he's performed in. I can find no other published reviews or mentions of his work and nothing in which he is the lead or one of the lead performers. The music world has literally thousands of such people and there is little likelihood of any but a small percentage of those who have published or performed significant works in their own name, to warrant an article in an encyclopaedia. I'm a bit unsure of this but sway towards exclusion. Again, see WP:MUSIC.
- The fan club - http://www.gabba.org/: The main Allman Brothers fan club is known as ABB Fan Club/Hittin' the Note [3] (named after the band's 2003 album Hittin' the Note). GABBA seems to be some sort of offshoot organisation which organises an annual fan festival. Non-notable.
Disambiguation pages are meant to be aids to assist readers navigate their way inside the encyclopeadia, just like Redirect pages. Inclusion of redlinks should only be done (per WP:MOSDAB) when an encylopaedia article is likely. DAB pages are not meant to be a listing of every possible use of the word found in a google search. If the anon editor still feels strongly about this then the simple solution is to write an article and let the WP community determine notability based on what he's written. -- I@n ≡ talk 01:55, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
