What happened to the logo? Why was it removed? I believe it's ok to put UGM logo on wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hermansaksono (talkcontribs) 02:06, 26 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Page Title - Official Name

edit

I think page should be on "Universitas Gadjah Mada" instead of "Gadjah Mada University". Because it's official name is "Universitas Gadjah Mada" not "Gadjah Mada" Ega Zulfikar (talk) 01:55, 10 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ega Zulfikar, Thanks for your question. I checked WP:TITLE. The main criterion there for article titles is "how reliable English-language sources refer to the article's subject." In the English-language Wikipedia, I think that "Gadjah Mada University" is the most appropriate form; in the Bahasa Indonesia Wikipedia, "Universitas Gadjah Mada" undoubtedly would be the article name. You will find this across all languages and versions of Wikipedia. By the way, thank you for all your contributions to this article! Kind regards, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 09:32, 10 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Okay I get it. Thank you too for all your help, Mr Sonnenfeld Ega Zulfikar (talk) 05:41, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Mr Sonnenfeld. How about this. -- "Wikipedia does not necessarily use the subject's "official" name as an article title; it prefers to use the name that is most frequently used to refer to the subject in English-language reliable sources." -- Universitas Gadjah Mada were most frequently name that used to refer to the subject. Ega Zulfikar (talk) 03:07, 15 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Take a look at the List of universities in Indonesia. I think you'll see that most Indonesian universities use the English variation of their name. Kind regards, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 09:59, 15 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

What about these: Universiti Tun Abdul Razak, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman and Universidad de Manila. Those are some example of articles that used non English terms to represent University's name. What do you think about it?. Regards, Ega Zulfikar (talk) 03:42, 28 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

UGM official Name

edit

There is no Gadjah Mada University, it is Universitas Gadjah Mada it is a name not to be translated in English as GMU (Gadjah Mada University) Riza.pasha (talk) 17:08, 25 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

See the discussion above – "Page Title - Official Name". Some sources (e.g. topuniversities.com) translate it as this page title has it. "Universitas" is just Latin for "university", I assume, and not a word that's untranslatable into English. Dhtwiki (talk) 10:02, 26 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

2017 alleged sexual assault cover-up

edit

This section appears to be engaged in an edit war. The section clearly mentions that the case is under investigation and is an ALLEDGED case. However the section is been constantly deleted arguing that the court hasn't passed a verdict yet. I am keeping this section though those who want it deleted may well give their reason for the section to remain

LostCitrationHunter (talk) 12:13, 3 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

@LostCitrationHunter, I Completely Agree With You. It's alleged case that doesn't mean it is false. By This IP @111.94.6.152 seems to edit it very rapidly. Possibly from University Admin Side.
@111.94.6.152 Give your reason Wikibijay1 (talk) 12:34, 3 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
I am pinging @111.94.6.152: to join the discussion to prevent more edit wars. I am in agreement that the section should remain. Multiple WP:RS has stated about the case. We can rewrite it to make it less about UGM, but the fact remains that UGM did not report the case to the police. Whether the man is convicted with rape or not is not the main concern, the main concern, that should be in the article, is that UGM failed to report the rape case to proper authorities, giving her bad marks for whatever reason, and then change the mark again for whatever reason. The rape is clearly alleged, but the refusal to report is not alleged as it has been done. I think we should focus on the refusal to report the rape instead of the alleged rape itself. Thoughts? SunDawntalk 12:34, 3 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Not handing Over The Case To proper authorities is the main concern. I am searching some more WP:RS
for update on this matter Wikibijay1 (talk) 12:41, 3 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Broken markup

edit

To the Wikipedia Admin, in the English edition of Wikipedia UGM, there is a messy/mixed arrangement of columns in the sections "International Collaboration, Achievement, Student Life" and so on down to "Notable Alumny" below. Please arrange/tidy up the arrangement of the columns downwards so that it looks orderly, nice, neat and attractive. International Collaboration and Student Achievement

edit

Why has the International Collaboration and Student Achievement article of Gadjah Mada University been deleted? @Dhtwiki @Davidelit

Article about International Collaboration in Gadjah Mada University has the reference, some universities like St Gallen University https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_St._Gallen, ESCP France https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ESCP_Business_School, Copenhagen Business School https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copenhagen_Business_School, Quennsland Univ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Queensland also shown their collaboration with other universities. You must check their Wikipedia.

Related to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Stand-alone_lists#Selection_criteria also said: " Selection criteria (also known as inclusion criteria or membership criteria) should be unambiguous, objective, and supported by reliable sources " where the article in Gadjah Mada University has provided the RELIABLE SOURCE.

So there is no reason to delete those informative and valuable articles from Gadjah Mada University. It can be categories as vandalism. 111.94.95.41 (talk) 12:11, 15 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

The lists have no context. From WP:LISTCRIT: "As Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not a directory, repository of links, or means of promotion, and should not contain indiscriminate lists, only certain types of lists should be exhaustive. Criteria for inclusion should factor in encyclopedic and topical relevance, not just verifiable existence." These lists add nothing useful to the article, and are also WP:PEACOCK. Davidelit (Talk) 06:53, 17 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
David,
Article in International Collaboration was already giving clear context that shown with title International Collaboration and explanation "UGM has been collaborating with many overseas universities such as" like what St Gallen University https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_St._Gallen, ESCP France https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ESCP_Business_School, Copenhagen Business School https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copenhagen_Business_School did. UGM has different types of collaboration, Collaboration with Harvard University related to Psychological research, Collaboration with Yale University related to Instructor exchange, etc. If each collaboration should be explained, it will be very long explanation.
Similar condition with student achievement, it has a clear context as an award that a student has obtained from a competition.
If we talk about the information value, those lists give valuable information for everyone that the university has good relation academic with other universities and the student also shown capable of competing in various competitions. That is more valuable information than the controversies article section.
Then if we talk about encyclopedic https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikipedia_is_an_encyclopedia is a written compendium of knowledge like the article you have been deleted. 111.94.95.41 (talk) 08:32, 17 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
The international collaboration list is given a single source, a UGM website page that requires searching on a university name and which does not return relevant material. For example, searching on "harvard university" results in "[Malaysia] University Scholars Leadership Symposium 202" as the top search result, which doesn't mention Harvard at all. The third result mentions "Harvard Rules of Procedure", but that doesn't tell anything of collaboration with that university. Most entries on the list pf student competitions are without citations. Those citations that are there, that I've checked, all lead to UGM pages. It would be better to have some news stories that told of the significance of these achievements, and even limit entries to those competitions that are considered newsworthy by other sources. Dhtwiki (talk) 04:46, 18 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Wikipedia provides many Template to give notification such as citation needed and can be shown in the specific article. It will be a more constructive review by giving it instead of deleting the article.
Many contributors have been improving this article significantly, we need to appreciate and respect it. 111.94.95.222 (talk) 06:45, 22 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
You have not addressed the issue of the non-, single-, likely promotional sourcing of the lists, which most likely violates several Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines, such as WP:RS, WP:UNDUE, WP:PROMOTION. There are times when the addition is so massive and inappropriate that individual, inline templates aren't the best way to proceed. Those who keep inappropriate text off the article are also doing their share to improve the article. Dhtwiki (talk) 08:03, 23 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Dhtwiki,
You said, " The international collaboration list is given a single source, a UGM website page that requires searching on a university name and which does not return relevant material". Then I address it by giving a clear citation in each collaboration.
There are NO PROMOTIONAL THINGS in international collaboration since many universities also shown their listed collaborations, check St Gallen University https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_St._Gallen, ESCP France https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ESCP_Business_School, Copenhagen Business School https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copenhagen_Business_School. Similar condition with Student Achievement article.
So, I warn you to not delete that valid information since it complies with Wikipedia's requirement, not based on a doubtful perspective. 111.94.95.222 (talk) 09:16, 24 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
For one thing, if you're citing a single source in multiple places, you should use <ref name="relevant name"{{cite...}}</ref> for fully define an anchor citation and use <ref name="relevant name" /> for subsequent cites. That makes the references section much less cluttered. When I asked for citations, I was hoping for some variety, including newspaper or magazine articles. I also cited WP:RS and WP:UNDUE as guidelines you've violated. I don't see the college as a reliable citation, and they're certainly not giving much explanatory information on their collaborations. The other college articles you cited are not model articles (i.e. not good or featured articles) and so are not necessarily exemplary. Your "warn[ing]" only makes me want to revert your edit, but I will desist for now. There is at least one other editor who agrees that what is now on the article page is excessive. Dhtwiki (talk) 00:00, 26 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
When you said: " I don't see the college as a reliable citation", then many global universities that cite their website as references will you categorize unrealiable citation. There are no explicit rules in Wikipedia that align with your opinion.
Related to International Collaboration, there is no excessive information since many global universities St Gallen University https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_St._Gallen, ESCP France https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ESCP_Business_School, Copenhagen Business School https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copenhagen_Business_School also shown their international collaboration, and no issue with that. 103.162.237.179 (talk) 02:50, 1 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Is there a consensus for adding that information? I see several IP addresses, but those could be from the same person. I just reverted an edit where not only was the contested text re-added, but apparently the entire controversy section was peremptorily removed without explanation. Dhtwiki (talk) 23:14, 1 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

To dear the Wikipedia Admin, in the UGM English edition, there was a segment "International Undergraduate Programmes", "International Graduate Programmes", "Double Degree Programmes", "Post Doctoral Programmes", "International Collaboration" (contains collaboration with lots of selected & the best universities/colleges in the world), & "Achievement" (contains hundreds of collection of the best achievements in competitions of UGM students and lecturers/academics at international/world level in many years). Why it has been deleted ?. To ensure the credibility and professionalism of Wikipedia, It should be displayed again complete/intact according to its last existing because it was the result of a long history of struggle from UGM initiated by its pioneer who made great contributions to the nation and state interests.
