Notability
editEstablish notability providing secondary resources. See, WP:WHYN, WP:REF and WP:RELY. Hope you find it useful. AnupMehra ✈ 16:08, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
- By a very long standing consensus, inhabited localities are automatically notable. Reliable sources that document and verify governmental recognition of a place, such as a national census, are usually adequate to establish notability. Wikipedia:Notability (geographic features). Confusion
editThere are two places with the same name being mixed together in this article.
The infobox contains the coordinates of Galiniai (Lazdijai), but the administrative division hierarchy of Galiniai (Šakiai). The article's description of "near the border with Poland" seems to indicate that the village near Lazdijai was meant, but the associated Wikidata item and interwiki links are about the village near Šakiai.
Quite confusing, and I am not sure how to resolve it. If page history is the ultimate arbiter, then I think it should be the Lazdijai one, as the initial version of the article just described it as near the Polish border. If we should care more about backlinks, then I think the Šakiai one wins out, as it is linked from all pages that transclude Template:Marijampole County; however the article Adolfas Ramanauskas may be referring to the Lazdijai one.
If anything, the most notable place in Lithuania with this name is probably the Galiniai village in Marijampolis eldership, Vilnius district, which has a current population of 70 (vs. the single-digit populations of these two villages). There are also several other Lithuanian villages with the same name. 98.170.164.88 (talk) 03:23, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
