Crowding out the text?

edit

I'm a touch concerned regarding the enlargement of the image showing the street entrance. My main concern is that the images will crowd out the text. I'm all for the image and think it's a great addition, but I'm just worried that the current size is crowding out the text...

Comments appreciated. SchuminWeb (Talk) 00:31, 1 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Pl?

edit

Shouldn't it be "Gallery Place-Chinatown"? john k 04:22, 14 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

On signage and the map, it's "Gallery Pl-Chinatown". Only exception is where it's "GALLERY PLACE" on the inside LEDS on the CAF, Rehab, and Alstom cars. SchuminWeb (Talk) 19:51, 14 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
This seems hardly definitive. The fact is that everyone calls it "Gallery Place." It seems rather perverse to repeatedly call it "Gallery Pl", which is rather awkward. Street signs and maps often give abbreviated names for streets, as well (Market St., Strathmore Ave., Aurora Dr.), but that doesn't mean we can't give the full name. "Pl" stands for "Place." john k 01:09, 11 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
"Gallery Pl-Chinatown" appears to be the official name, based on WMATA's site. SchuminWeb (Talk) 10:53, 11 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
This is what is used in writing. But "Pl" means "Place." It's not as though people speaking out loud say "Gallery Pluh". john k 20:21, 11 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Station image

edit

You know... I'm a little torn between Kmf164's image and my image for the infobox. I think Kmf164's image is overall better quality, but it's a little off-center (but could possibly be fixed). I personally think my image, while perhaps better framed, is a poor photo. It's really grainy, and the color looks washed out. Thoughts? SchuminWeb (Talk) 22:58, 11 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Also, I did a rotate-and-crop of Kmf164's photo: File:Gallery place metro (cropped).jpg. Thoughts? SchuminWeb (Talk) 23:04, 11 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
I think the cropped version of Kmf164's photo is an improvement over the original, but I still prefer SchuminWeb's -- it is brighter and much more clearly shows the station structure. The photo is a bit grainy, but when both are scaled down to appear in the article infobox, the other photo's darkness is a more significant problem. All right, then we'll leave it for now. Next time I'm at Gallery, then, I'll see if I can't crank out a better photo. SchuminWeb (Talk) 00:39, 12 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Spaces in title

edit

Please clarify the comment in this edit; it appears to have been cut off. Everything counts (talk) 01:29, 17 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Basically, it reiterates the part of the MOS I'm citing. The entire summary was supposed to have been: "Actually, Dream Out Loud appears to be correct. According to MOS:ENDASH, the spaces around the dash are correct because of spaces in one of the sections. Thus something like Grosvenor–Strathmore would be correct, and Gallery Place – Chinatown is also correct." SchuminWeb (Talk) 02:42, 17 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Jumped the gun on these name changes

edit

I think someone jumped the gun on these station name changes. I don't think they go into effect until June 2012. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 140.147.236.195 (talk) 21:32, 10 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

An significant part of the station's history is that this was the test case for WMATA's opposition to disability access. If I recall, WMATA originally claimed they could not provide elevators for the station. The court (probably DCDC) basically said "okay, you don't need to open the station". WMATA then decided they could construct the elevators, resulting in them opening the station a few months behind schedule. This would have been 1976 (Gallery Place was part of the original portion of the Red Line).

I'll try to dig up the references for this and include it, but anyone else, please jump the gun on me! Unitacx (talk) 01:49, 8 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
