Was first patented in 2000 in the US, see patent WO0013745. Some unreliable source say that it's a 100 years old discovery.
I just read a tidbit about this in Popular Mechanics (I don't remember the issue; it could even have been Popular Science) and it seems NASA has been using this lately for pilot training. Perhaps NASA insiders could expand on the subject. Eddietoran (talk) 04:02, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
