Good job!
editJust making a random comment: This article is very impressive. It's direct, to the point, clean, and pretty (definitely a plus). Good job, those of you who maintained it. Riffraffselbow 02:42, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
Types of gardens
editI'm curious as to the logic of removing lasagna gardens from the types of gardens. How do you differentiate between types and techniques? A squash garden could be considered a different type than a tomato garden. Also, a sacred garden or zen garden could obviously be grown, or arranged, for different reasons than a simple vegetable garden, and therefore considered different types. I see your point there. If you remove garden types because they are a technique, would you also need to remove square foot garden, rain garden, etc? After all, a rain garden could be the exact same style or 'type' as any other garden, however it is watered by rain collection rather than irrigation or some other means. Does that mean it is a different technique? I would think so. A square foot garden is just a small technique, no?
I think of a lasagna garden being a very different type of garden as the composition of the garden material is quite different than all other gardening types, much like hydroponic gardening.
Could you explain to me how you see the difference between type and technique when it comes to gardening, and whether or not lasagna gardening is considered a valid type?
Thanks! Richhersey (talk) 18:42, 6 March 2014 (UTC)
- The distinction between types and techniques is perhaps not an absolute one, but I decided to remove your addition of 'Lasagna garden' from the list of types because it seemed to me to be primarily a technique which could be employed in many gardens. Also the term 'Lasagna gardening' currently redirects to Sheet mulching, which I wouldn't regard as a 'type' of garden. Some of the other entries under 'garden types' could perhaps also be removed. - Would it, perhaps, improve the page if both types and techniques were separated and listed? I can see your point, and perhaps Sheet mulching, Rain garden, and others should be listed under varying techniques, rather than removed. I think knowing about different gardening techniques certainly contributes to this article. Would you agree? - This article is rather basic at the moment, and has potential to expand significantly, in which case including gardening techniques would make the article too long, in my view. I think it would be more logical and apposite to place techniques within the Gardening article - which I notice also has a 'Types' section, just to blur things even more... Both articles probably need a bit of attention to ensure information is in the most appropriate place. PaleCloudedWhite (talk) 21:02, 6 March 2014 (UTC)
