Verifiability

Please note that most publications being cited in this article are accessible through ProQuest if you happen to have access to it through a university or other library. Unfortunately, I'm unable to supply usable URLs because the URL given is specific only to my university. Please feel free to message me on my talk page if you would like access to a particular source for the purposes of verifying the content of this article. ~ RobTalk 06:30, 2 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Photo

edit

A photo is need for this article, but through extensive searching, it appears no relevant free image exists. If anyone is able to take one (possibly by attending the team's practice?), that would be extremely helpful. ~ RobTalk 01:19, 4 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Peer Review vs. GA

edit

I'm thinking the GA submission is premature. Going from 'Start' to GA seems like a big leap. I would suggest doing Peer Review and making improvements based on that before submitting to GA review. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 13:08, 14 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

About to start the review, full disclosure I am aWiki Cup and a GA Cup participant. If anyone would like to reciprocate I have my own GAN (Mexican National Trios Championship) needing a review and a Feature Article (CMLL World Heavyweight Championship) and Feature List (Mexican National Light Heavyweight Championship) candidates in need of input. Not that it's a factor in my GA review. I usually provide my feedback in portions over a day or so, so don't be surprised if I keep popping in with stuff for a while. 03:29, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

GA Toolbox

edit

So starting out with the obvious from the toolbox

Copyvio Detector
  • Oh bad - 86% confidence that there is a copyright violation and when I check the tool I agree, a large portion of test is lifted from a different website.

So this is an immediate GA review failure, large blocks of copyright violations. Please address the issues if you want to actually have a GA review in the future.

@MPJ-DK: Could you please take another look at this? That site took the text from Wikipedia, not the other way around. You can check the edit history and see that I wrote this in pieces over multiple days, with several copy-edits. More importantly, you can see that the site lifts other pages without attribution, such as [1] lifting [2]. It's a bit distressing to be told my writing isn't my own, and I'd rather not just throw this in the over 6 month queue after it was failed due to a mirror of Wikipedia. ~ RobTalk 05:26, 19 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

GA Toolbox

I like to get this checked out first, I have found issues using this that has led to quick fails so it's important this passes muster.

Peer review tool
  • Lead should be two paragraphs, even a short GA should really have that many paragraphs
    •   Semi-done I've expanded the lead a bit, and we'll see if more information can be included based on a search for info on Williams' personal life. There's not too much else to put in the lead without departing from summary style. ~ RobTalk 16:34, 19 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Well Written

edit
  • Overall not a lot of issues with the prose, just a few things
  • "While playing for the Carolina Panthers, Williams started games in 2010-2015, but various injuries kept him from consistently starting despite multiple opportunities." I know what you're trying to say, perhaps it should be "started several games between 2010 and 2015 but various injuries prevented him from becoming a regular starter despite multiple opportunities"?
    •   Done I reworded this a bit and split it into two sentences. I'm avoiding the use of "regular" because there were periods where he was designated the starter for reasons other than injuries to other players. I think "consistently" better gets across the fact that he started on-and-off. Either way, the awkward run-on sentence is fixed. ~ RobTalk 22:20, 19 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • "at Seneca, and was ranked" does not need the comma
  • "Draft, but went" no need for the comma
  • No source for the Panthers not resigning him after he became a free agent.
    •   Done There's no citation that specifically says "He wasn't resigned" because sports news organizations generally don't report on the minor free agents who are not signed. I did add a citation from when he joined the Stamps that indicates he parted with the Panthers in 2015, which should be sufficient. ~ RobTalk 22:20, 19 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Sources/verifiable

edit
  • I am taking it as good faith that all the non-linked news sources exists
  • Linked articles look like news sources, have appropriate details  Y

Broad in coverage

edit
  • No, it only covers his football career and nothing else, not even a hit of anything beyond that. I would like to see something more about Garry Williams the person, not just the football player.  N
    •   Done I've added a personal life section with all the information I was able to find about his non-football activities from reliable sources. Unfortunately, there's not a whole lot published on that particular area, but this should cover the "broad in scope" requirement. I have no illusions that it would meet the "comprehensive" criteria of FA, of course. ~ RobTalk 16:55, 19 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Neutral

Stable

Discussion

edit

Please note that I added some information to the Calgary Stampeders section, since the 2015 season ended since I nominated the article. I've also responded above to the first round of feedback. I look forward to additional rounds.   ~ RobTalk 16:57, 19 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
