editIt appears that there is some contention over the inclusion of information about one Darryl J. St. Pierre in this article about Garyville, Louisiana, judging from the article's history. I merely stumbled across the Garyville article while researching which is the newest oil refinery in the USA (the Marathon plant in Garyville), and I admit that I know nothing else about the area, or Darryl J. St. Pierre. However I would like to make a couple of observations, in the interest of the Wikipedia:
- This person may very well be an integral part of the community of Garyville. The fact that he may have written two histories of the area which were published in a local newspaper is noteworthy and significant
- However, inclusion of biographical information about this individual, regardless of his association with Garyville, is almost certainly misplaced in this article. It serves no purpose, particularly in the introductory paragraph of the article.
It would be extremely interesting and highly relevant to this article to actually include the histories of Garyville referenced in the recent edit, allegedly written by this individual. If the rights can be secured from the author, I would suggest that the history, or relevant portions of it, be included directly in this article. If that is not possible, the next best thing would be to include a link to the history located somewhere on the web, in the "Externral Links" section at the bottom of the article.
If the history were linked in this way in the "External Links" section, I would argue that it would even be appropriate to include the author's name and a very brief mention of his affiliation with Garyville (e.g. home town)
If somebody wishes to provide biographical information about this person, the appropriate way to do that would be to create a new Wikipedia article on that person. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this and it would highlight the accomplishments and relevant facts about this person. I would do this myself, but I know absolutely nothing about the individual in question other than what is being included erroneously in this article. Once a separate article on Darryl J. St. Pierre is created by itself, I see nothing wrong with including a link to that article under a new section in the article on Garysville called "Notable people from Garyville".
However, I have to disagree with the inclusion of the information as presented in the recent edits, and in past edits. I will edit the article, again, to remove this information as it stands. Dgstangel 05:31, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
