Did Miguel join the 1501 journey?
editThe article currently claims that he did, with a citation to [1]. But I can't find any other sources that support this. The Dictionary of Canadian Biography explicitly refutes this, saying "Miguel, however, did not accompany his brother but commanded one of the vessels sent by King Manoel to help the Venetians against the Turks in the summer of 1501." The "UXL Biographies" source seems to be a textbook aimed at middle-school students, so I would tend to give it lower weight. Therefore, I'm going to remove this claim. But I wanted to leave a record here in case anyone has any other sources that add support in either direction. Colin M (talk) 16:58, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
Image is identical to his father's article's image
editThe main image of him on the page looks identical to the image of his father, in this article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jo%C3%A3o_Vaz_Corte-Real
One would expect father and son to look similar, but surely not identical! Which one of them is actually shown in the image? The image should be removed from whichever page is not the person in the image. Vontheri (talk) Vontheri (talk) 20:36, 22 October 2022 (UTC)
- Great catch. Literally never heard of this guy until 20 minutes ago. Did a little digging. The cite for the Gaspar picture is cited to JSTOR and the cite for Joao is what appears to be a crowdsourced Portuguese genealogy page. So I think the balance of evidence is that the picture of Gaspar. I changed the image on the Joao page to a statute version of him that already is on the Portuguese version of this page. - that page. sorry the Joao one. Hope that makes sense. Jjazz76 (talk) 01:42, 24 May 2024 (UTC)
