Page creation

I tried to look up Gastronorm sizes on Wikipedia and there was nothing, so I created this page after I found the sizes on a catering supplier web site. I do not know how widely these sizes are used, or where they originated. Man with two legs 09:57, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

Trying to find a citation on Google reveals not much. There are plenty of hits refering to catering equipment available in these sizes and at least one military specification mentioning them, but no clues so far as to which organisation defined them. I am disinclined to use a randomly chosen catering supply site as a citation even if it does mention how to convert gastronorm to millimetres. The only hit I have seen on Google that is neither a catering supplier nor a contract specification refers to this Wikipedia article. Man with two legs 09:15, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

Note that Gastronorm is the long standing Standard used by the Metric Based countries (since at least 1975 that I know of). Manufacturers have used this standard to produce Commercial Kitchen Equipment for at least this period of time and usually reference it in their documentatuion. One item of note though is that the Standard refers only to the overall dimensions of the container and it makes no reference to the size of the top flange that sits on the runners or benchtop. Fixed the GN2/4 typo. Added direct citation to the external link and removed the dubious template. Hope this is the right way to resolve the issue. Don't really know where the dispute came from: logically, GN2/4 means that four tins must fit into a 2-size GN AND that its dimensions must differ from the "normal" 1/2. The simplest way to do it is to fit four widthwise, so their larger side is equal to the smaller side of a 2/1 tin, and their smaller side is equal to a quarter of a 2/1 tin. (The only other way would be to fit them lengthwise, but then you'd have four insanely long and narrow 650 x 132 tins.) The math checks out, even without having to confirm it with anecdotal experience.Davide.tassinari (talk) 08:22, 12 November 2014 (UTC)

Gastronorm origin

A couple of catering supply websites have said that the Gastronorm sizes were set up by the European Standards Committee. Unfortunately, searching the CEN standards website (https://standards.cen.eu/dyn/www/f?p=CENWEB:105::RESET::::) for 'gastronorm' isn't showing anything. 113.61.77.117 (talk) 00:59, 11 July 2019 (UTC)

Capitalization

Is gastronorm considered a proper noun? Should it be capitalized? The article currently inconsistently uses both gastronorm and Gastronorm. ehn (talk) 08:13, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
