Years of service

The Years of service box only gives 81-82, which is presumably from assuming command of the Troop to his death. From the citation that most of this article is cut and pasted from it's clear that his parent unit was the Green Howards but when did he enter the Academy?

Paraent Unit Badge

The XIX capbadge clutters the infobox and has been removed. Hamilton's service with them is pointed out within the text. The only reason people will spare the time to read the article is because of his service and actions with the SAS. Give valid reasons for its return or it will continue to be deleted (Archangel1 (talk) 23:20, 26 June 2008 (UTC))

Badges

I've removed the unit badges as 'people' keep putting back on. The only reason Hamilton has a page is because he was an SAS officer. If you add the units of some soldiers on here you would have a list as long as your arm as many people of 'note' have changed their allegiances on many occasions. So, to avoid confornations with people that add the parent unit badge (proberly to boost their own ego), it should remain blank (Archangel1 (talk) 11:55, 26 November 2008 (UTC)).

I would say he has a page because he was one of the few MCs in the Falklands war - not because of his SAS status.Wholemanne (talk) 12:33, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Really. So by that rationale, there would scores of page for people who have received an award of note. There were many awards garnered during the war but those guys havent got pages (Archangel1 (talk) 12:39, 26 November 2008 (UTC)).

Plagiarism

The section titled "Observation on Stanly" ends with a curious quotation mark. Well this is strange. The link doesn't work, however, repeating the google search only turns up mirrors of this page. If there is plagiarism it would appear to be wikipedia that is the victim here, the copies I found all post dated this article. WCM_email 18:14, 15 August 2015 (UTC)

Gavin John Hamilton, known as John, went to Grosvenor House Preparatory School in Harrogate before attending the Royal Masonic School for boys in Bushey, Hertfordshire. While there in addition to excelling at Rugby he discovered his passion for climbing and mountaineering, taking part in expeditions in the Cuillin Mountains on the Isle of Skye and in the Alps. He went to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 1974 and commissioned from the Regular Career Course in 1975. Following the Platoon Commanders Course he was posted to the 1st Battalion The Green Howards in Chester. In 1976 he was sent to South Armagh with the Battalion. On their return they were posted to Berlin where he met and married his wife, Victoria, the daughter of a British diplomat. In 1978 he was posted to the new Infantry Demonstration Battalion as Adjutant in Warminster. He then qualified as an Anti Tank Platoon Commander and rejoined the Green Howards in Catterick in 1980. During this period he passed SAS selection and following a brief return to the Green Howards in Cyprus in 1981 he joined 19 (Mountain) Troop, D Squadron as the Troop Commander.
