Gemüseschlacht in 2005

... das letzte rohe Ei, das der 15Jährige bei der traditionellen Gemüseschlacht ... warf ... musste sich Gymnasiast Benjamin gestern vor dem Amtsgericht Tiergarten verantworten.
[Due to] the last raw egg that the 15-year-old threw at the traditional vegetable fight ..., secondary school student Benjamin had to answer to the Tiergarten District Court yesterday.

i declare that i have no conflict of interest with the gemüseschlacht.
i am not sure if the hook works better with the picture or not. the picture is from the 2005 fight, but the hook is about the 2003 fight, so i feel that simply using "(pictured)" would be misleading. however, using a parenthetical like "(2005 fight pictured)" might make the hook less effective. i thought i might provide the picture so that others could weigh in. i deliberately left out the "(pictured)" for now.

  •   - Hey dying, nice to be at DYK with you again! QPQ looks fine, article is of a suitable length. Article's sources look fine, and Earwig comes up with 0.0%. You sure cut it fine with your nomination against moving to articlespace - am I right in stating 14 minutes?! I think the hook's great, but I would personally tend towards removing the image and moving towards a last-slot hook; imo the pic doesn't very clearly identify what's actually happening at such a small scale, the pics about a water fight and the hook's about a vegetable fight, and the parenthesis would be needed (an image of someone getting hammered in the face would probably be better, if not too graphic haha) . On that note, what would your thoughts be on removing the word "raw" from the hook? perhaps it could better capitalise on the humour that comes off at first read of an arrest over the presence of an egg at a vegetable fight... hey, Frzzl! good to see you again as well. haha, yeah, i am admittedly often guilty of submitting nominations rather close to the deadline, as i try to use the intervening week to come up with the best hook i can. my hooks could still use some work, though, as you've no doubt noticed.
also, that is a great suggestion about dropping the "raw" from the hook. it doesn't really add much to the hook, and detracts from the incongruity of mentioning an egg in the context of a vegetable fight. i've proposed alt0a below, which incorporates your suggestion.

alt0a: ... that a 15-year-old student was brought to court over throwing an egg during a vegetable fight?

you've also pointed out some things i hadn't considered before: the picture is too small at this scale, and only the water is easily visible. taking this into account, i agree that the image isn't appropriate, so am striking it. (i don't think strikethrough markup works on images, so am just applying the markup to the caption.)
by the way, if you aren't already familiar with it, the unrelated annual els enfarinats festival in spain often results in dramatic photos of people getting hammered in the head with multiple eggs at once, as seen here and here (content advisory: crack visible). dying (talk) 02:12, 1 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
