Lead paragraph needs rewrite

edit

The lead paragraph needs a rewrite. The Lead is supposed to be an introduction to the article and a brief summary of the important points. It is none of that.

For starters, what is this article about? The first sentence should state the topic of the article, perhaps offering a definition of the title, which is often bolded. Currently, it doesn't do that. Instead, it offers a definition of Gender, but there's already an article about that. The remainder of the first paragraph goes into more detail about 2nd, and 3rd genders, and so on, and about masculine and feminine. However, the words masculine and feminine do not occur anywhere in the main body of the article. (!!) Nor is there anything about 3rd or other genders in the body.

The second paragraph talks about the nature vs nurture debate, which is certainly appropriate in an article about psychology of gender. This must be, I assume, one of the major topics in psychology of gender. However, the article itself does not mention it. (!!!)

Given the lack of definition of the topic title and a reasonable introduction, it's very difficult to determine what belongs, and what should be excluded. As a result, the article seems pretty meandering and unfocused. Does that whole (curiously named) #Biological section belong here? I would say "no", but hard to say, really. Contrast with the organization and content of Sociology of gender.

Given the three articles Gender, Feminine psychology, and Masculine psychology I question whether this article is even needed. Is Gender psychology simply the union of the two articles Feminine psychology and Masculine psychology? If not, why not, and how is this article different from those two? If so, then this article should be merged or deleted, or perhaps turned into a stub with a brief summary of each, with {{Main article}} links to the other two articles. Or, the other two articles should be merged here. Mathglot (talk) 00:08, 15 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Proposed merger

edit

I disagree with the proposed merger between gender psychology and feminine psychology. From the current article text, gender psychology appears to be focused on the formation of gender, while feminine psychology is focused on issues confronting women throughout their lives. Concepts and theories in those areas may have little to no overlap. Certainly they appear to be different perspectives. ParticipantObserver (talk) 14:52, 2 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Proposed merge with Sex differences in psychology

I have proposed a merge of this article, Gender psychology, into Sex differences in psychology. Please join the discussion! --Xurizuri (talk) 08:11, 3 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
