there is another page called gene redundancy which treats the same topic, I guess they should be merged, right?

Yep. Note I just re-deleted a big chunk of this article as it was based on a creationist source and probably a copyright violation – see Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Genetics/Archive_2#Genetic_redundancy_contains_some_material_from_Creation.com_.28copyvio.29. They are duplicates, but somewhere it would be nice if there were a page about redundant biochemical pathways (redundant metabolic pathways), relating to metabolic networks. The original version of this page seemed to be heading in that direction, but it never really got off the ground. There are interesting implications of genetic redundancy that are not just gene-for-gene. How about reverting way back. Possible sources include:

Confusing second paragraph

The second paragraph is confusing and seems to contradict itself. At the start it says that gene duplications are the main source of genetic redundancy and then a few sentences in, it contradicts this.
