I am a biology research student using genetic screens to study the red light signaling pathways in Arabidopsis thaliana and I have made a few changes and corrections to this page. I kept the format fairly simple but like most biological topics or any topic for that matter, there are still areas which could be expanded on and further developed. Some areas include the types of organisms on which genetic screens are being used (Look at the Nature link I have posted under external links) as well as the use of PCR in Mapping Mutants. Again some of these topics may overlap with other pages, but a brief description of the processes may be helpful. I will continue editing in the near future in hopes of improving the quality of this page.Zebrabronco (talk) 16:34, 10 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Peer review of user: zebrabronco. It looks like a lot of work has recently been put into this page. You have added a substantial amount of information and have done a good job formatting the page. The page flows much better than previously. I noticed a few days ago that there were some links to pages that did not exist, but you have cleaned these up and have done a good job linking to other Wikipedia articles. Good luck and continue with the good work! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 23Amber23 (talkcontribs) 16:40, 3 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Genetic screen v. Genetic screening

edit

I am not quite sure that the section on Genetic Screening should be in this article, rather than merged into the article on Genetic testing, where it is already largely covered. My view is that Genetic screen has a precise scientific meaning, that is the creation and selection of mutant individuals with a particular phenotype, with a view to identifying the genes involved in particular processes. Genetic screening on the other hand does not involve creating mutants and is done for medical purposes rather than for the scientific purpose of finding new genes, or new roles for known genes. I am not a human geneticist however rather a model organism geneticist so this may reflect my misunderstanding of the terminology of the field. Please let me know what you think. I agree. I created the section before I knew about the genetic testing article. Go ahead and merge and maybe have a link to genetic testing if people come to genetic screen by mistake. David D. (Talk) 21:44, 15 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
Ok I will do this. Thanks, Celefin 22:48, 15 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Gene Mapping Page

edit

This page has quite a bit of good information that is easy to understand for novices and outsiders, but the article appears to be in need of expansion of sources and wikipedia links. The last section is missing citations entirely, and the first two paragraphs are almost entirely related to source 1, a McGraw-Hill textbook. The page also appears to contain information that should be better connected to the gene mapping page, which I did not see any links to. I added a link to cDNA, which was referenced in the last section, because of my lack of knowledge. Saturation screens might also need more fleshing out since it does not have any other pages dedicated to it. Randalj16 (talk) 05:21, 3 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Temperature Sensitive Section

edit

Hi I am a college student majoring in Geology and Biology and I have decided to add in this bibliography out of an interesting article I found online related to temperature sensitive genetic screens that I want to add in a couple sentences into for my homework assignment.
