Indeed. In addition this is hardly well selected quotation ("But if you believe force and oppression were the only factors driving the Soviet Union then you will never understand why the USSR lasted so long and achieved so much..."). I do not think any author on the subject ever claimed that "force and oppression were the only factors". Another factor was propaganda/lies; there were also many others.
