- In Wikispeak, you did not delete the article, you merely blanked it. To get it deleted, you would have needed to apply a {{db-author}} tag. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 22:19, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Blanking
editI see no reason to simply blank this article. What is needed is to check that none of the information here is duplicated in other articles. If there is a substantial amount of unique info, then the article stands. But the better solution will probably be to merge the text into Somerset and Geology of Somerset. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 21:27, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
- I did not blank the article, it was already blank with a redirect at the top when I returned to add further detail and references. I have been advised by a senior editor (when creating previous articles for Somerset) on Wiki to submit new material to the article page as soon as possible so everyone can work and amend / delete / add content. Are you saying you did not blank the article and add the redirect at the top of the page?. Its` content already appears to have been covered in the main article Somerset.Francis E Williams (talk) 21:33, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
- This article has been on the Somerset Wikiproject list of wanted articles for ages - since discussions on Talk:Geology of Somerset back in Aug 2008 when it was argued that much of the content of Geology of Somerset should really be in a more general geography article than a specialised Geology one.— Rod talk 21:37, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

- The Geology of Somerset article is just fine as it is. Maybe this Geography of Somerset could be expanded by using some material from here. Perhaps more on human aspects - settlement, population, economy - then climate, landscape etc. to make this into the parent/summary article for others like the Economy, Transport, Rivers and the Geographic areas which you already have.--Harkey (talk) 21:21, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Will review tomorrow morning, cheers.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:32, 3 October 2016 (UTC)
- Lede
- Link Bristol Channel
- "Between the Mendips and the Quantocks is the large area of level, low-lying ground known as the Somerset Levels." -can you be more specific on size?
- Surprised to see no mention of major rivers, lakes, waterfalls etc in the lede.
- Will add these when other expansions are done. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 12:58, 4 October 2016 (UTC)
- " Some of the industries traditionally based in the county have declined, but it is popular with tourists and still famed for its Cheddar cheese and cider." -not sure what this has to do with geography
- Physical geography
- "The countryside divides into four main geological regions, spanning the Silurian, the Devonian and the Carboniferous to the Permian, and these influence the landscape. " -not clear how it influences it
- The other main rivers flowing northwards and westwards into the Bristol Channel are the Axe, Exe, Brue and Congresbury Yeo. -I would elaborate on these rivers with a short description of some of them? Where do these rivers start? What towns to they flow through, notable tributaries?
- "The highest points in Somerset are on Exmoor with Dunkery Beacon (520m) being the county top." -you mean something like "Dunkery Beacon, on Exmoor, is the highest point of Somerset at 520 metres"?
I would considerably reduce the geology section, which is actually longer than the geography section. We have an article on geology for that. There's also more detail in some of the lower sections which aren't really geography. The article is ideally meant to be a detail overview of primarily Geography of Somerset, a detailed insight into its topography, mountains, hills, rivers, lakes, waterfalls and settlements.I would expect a whole sections on Rivers/water features and mountains/hills etc. Is it possible you could reduce some of the other information in favour of adding more details on geography Cwmhiraeth? If you could roughly double the info detail on Geography and trim the other parts so it's at least half purely about geography that should be OK I think. If you have some maps or something and could write more of a description I think using it and other sources that would help.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:57, 4 October 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you for taking on the review. Much of the Geology section was there when I started work on the article, and I don't much care for breezing in and removing large chunks, I try to be more circumspect, especially as Rodw is one of the past editors. I looked for guidance to other county articles but found few, and in the end I followed a similar format to Geography of Wales. I'll work along the lines you suggest and see what I can do. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 12:34, 4 October 2016 (UTC)
- Sorry, rather busy. Will hope to get back to this tomorrow. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 11:03, 7 October 2016 (UTC)

Looking lovely Cwmhiraeth, perhaps a little more detail needed on some of the highest hilly areas mentioned, another paragraph or two, you could go into more on Mendip Hills etc, and it'll be a fine balance I think. Perhaps fill out the short paragraph "The Somerset Levels is a wetland area of international importance, with large numbers of wading birds overwintering there" a bit too. Should be fine then. Well done! Will complete the review tomorrow, cheers.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:36, 8 October 2016 (UTC)
