Wife

I had heard from a lecture from the first guy who Gärtner had called (a historian) that Gärtner's wife divorced him after discovering that he was a former POW (he had apparently lied about his place of origin, despite his German accent)TheListUpdater (talk) 15:15, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

He worked very hard to lose his German accent and learn English well. By the time he and his wife met, there wasn't much accent left. After tuning himself into the FBI, he and his wife travelled to Germany to reunite with his family there, and returned to the United States. Georg Gärtner → Georg Gaertner – Per WP:COMMONNAME and WP:ENGLISH, English usage is required by WP:ENGLISH. "George Gaertner" is the most common spelling of his name. A google search of "George Gaertner German POW" (without quotes) shows 96,000 results vs. 66,400 with the Gartner spelling despite its use in this article for some years. "Gaertner" is the name the article subject himself used in the book that he wrote in 1985[1], and is the name that is utilized in books on the subject of German POWs and in his copious newspaper coverage, including the coverage that he received at the time of his 1985 surrender[2] [3]. Are you suggesting that the subject of he article misspelled his own name when he wrote his autobiography? [4] And there are no tabloid links in this article and none offered above, which are from the Los Angeles Times and New York Times. That is simply inaccurate. When he escaped on Sept 22,1945.
