Nathaniel?

George Burns's real first name is commonly given as Nathan; for what it's worth, however, I have a letter dated March 1, 1973, and signed by him (though perhaps typewritten by someone else) in which he told me his real first name was Nathaniel. He also wrote that Gracie used to call him "Sugarthroat." Richard K. Carson 06:40, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

POV?

the lead section is incredibly generous to Mr. Burns. A "titan of American comedy"? This is an encyclopedia folks. I'll try to rework it a bit.--Alhutch 00:10, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

The whole article is, really. No article should have a header called 'The final years. Really.' and crack puns, this isn't Everything2. BillyH 12:57, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
Agreed. This article needs a major rewrite. --Takeel 14:38, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
Agreed. Perhaps the article needs somewhat of a rewrite. I must say I found the style endearing albeit ill-fitted for this venue.--bwolper 04:52, 03 August, 2006 (UTC)

I removed all the non-NPOV embellishments, and tried to improve some other non-wiki wording. I hope it meets with your approval. However, I could not come up with a more appropriate-sounding title for the "Final years" section. Nightscream 08:39, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

It's reading remarkably restrained at the moment. POV doesn't seem to be an issue.

Fair use rationale for Image:Georgeburns-85.jpg

Image:Georgeburns-85.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 09:54, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Coronary Bypass Surgery when he was 78?

According to http://www.cigaraficionado.com/Cigar/CA_Profiles/People_Profile/0,2540,3,00.html, not a reliable source, George Burns had triple Coronary Bypass surgery when he was 78.

Could someone authenticate that and include it in the main article? NickP (talk) 13:27, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Photo, please!

The entire article has zero photos, let alone a photo of Burns himself. Anybody have one we could use for the article? --Ragemanchoo (talk) 15:09, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

Marriage with Gracie

Burns married Gracie in 1926, not 1895 as the article shows. Source. I would fix it myself if my computer wasn't malfunctioning. ~EDDY (talk/contribs/editor review)~ 22:02, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Reason for dropping out of school

I read that he dropped out of school because he saw, at that young age, that the school wasn't teaching him anything necessary to earn a living, so he quit to work to help his family because they were nearly starving on the low WAGES being paid back then. (Wages didn't start to rise to livable until the 50's or 60's, & they only started to go up because the rich owners saw that it was a way to stop people from wanting Socialism.) It's still true today that schools don't teach people how to earn a living (senseless learning & waste of time), & schools are holding areas that keep kids off the streets because there's nothing else to do. I think I read that in "Children of the City." Stars4change (talk) 17:24, 14 October 2009 (UTC)

Related "Burns and Allen" article

This article should cite the "Burns and Allen" article. I haven't inserted the citation because I'm not sure what's the best way to work it in. Also note that the two articles contradict each other on the subject of Gracie's signoff. This article claims she said "Goodnight Gracie," whereas the other article debunks that claim. Radio Commercials

I believe that Mr. Burns did a series of enjoyable radio commercials for Brentwood Savings in the mid-1970s. LorenzoB (talk) 20:03, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

Ronnie & Sandra

I've significantly revised the section describing Ronnie and Sandra's participation in the television show to flesh it out, and to correct an error already corrected elsewhere on the Gracie Allen page, which originally stated that Sandra played Gracie opposite Ronnie playing George in a Vaudeville routine in the episode "A Night of Vaudeville". Ronnie indeed played George, but Gracie was played by an actress named Diane Jergens, clearly identified in the closing credits by Harry Von Zell. Also tried to give a clearer picture of the character Ronnie played on the show, originally described only as an dramatic acting student. While an accurate description of his character throughout season 6, all his acting aspirations completely vanished by the time the show's setting returned to California, Ronnie's womanizing having taken over as the central facet of his character.WGaryW (talk) 20:12, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

If you read gracie allen's wikipedia page, burns had his affair after an argument about an expensive coffeetable. Here, the arguement was about a solver centerpiece. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.122.247.236 (talk) 16:14, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

Burns's Death

I trimmed the information on Burn's death, since the citation for footnote 11 is the NY Times from March 10, but it contained information on his funeral March 12 - which it could not have contained. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Catherinejarvis (talkcontribs) 19:06, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

The age at which the article indicates George Burns died appears to be incorrect . If he was born on January 20, 1896 and died on March 9, 1996, then he was 100 years and about 1 1/2 months old when he passed away. Or, you could say he was in his 101st year when he died. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.89.129.22 (talk) 14:30, 10 July 2014 (UTC)

Lisa Miller

Why no mention of Lisa Miller? She sang with him on the Dean Martin Show--1968. She seems to have been his 'date' on a few public occasions? There are images of them together at various functions. In "People" magazine, she is called his 'girlfriend'. It would be interesting to know exactly what their relationship was. (And what became of her in her senior years. She would be about age 70 now in 2015.)StevenTorrey (talk) 18:59, 18 August 2015 (UTC)

Later years and Death

Article states he was supposed to play Caesar's Palace on his 100th birthday. I had always heard the London Palladium. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:8BD5:3CF0:1885:1F01:325B:7CB4 (talk) 13:13, 2 May 2017 (UTC)

First Marriage; conflicting information

According to the infobox, he was married to Hannah Siegel from 1917 to 1921. However, the last paragraph of the "Early Life" section says that they were married for 26 weeks!

Any ideas on how to get to the bottom of this difference? Bunthorne (talk) 02:58, 22 July 2017 (UTC)

The Golden Palace

George Burns also appeared in episode 17 of The Golden Palace - Say Goodbye, Rose. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tammi0119 (talkcontribs) 01:02, 24 February 2018 (UTC)

Too much on wife!

Why is there a whole bio on his wife, in this article? There is an extensive article about her. If nobody objects, I will whittle that down to normal size here. --SergeWoodzing (talk) 18:22, 9 September 2018 (UTC)

I am Bonnie Ann Burns. George Burns is my dads uncle. I was kid napped in Milwaukee from "Cameron" of Modern Family T.V. Show. In real life, my dad Hugh, was bringing me to Larry and Rosemarys house in Whitefish Bay, WI. My mother, Yoriko, had many other little babies, so that is why I had to go to the sitter. (Larry) Hugh a former Marquette graduate in theology and employed as a Catholic Priest at St. John's Cathedral in Milwaukee, on Jefferson street. In 1955 a big huge white man, ran behind my dad and grabbed the baby basket with me in it, ran ahead of my dad and threw me into a car. Hugh was frantic. He called the police. The police found me with Mitchell and Cameron. I did not want to be away from my Japanese mom because she was so beautiful, gentle, soft spoken. Mitchell on Modern Family t.v. show called me stupid, which really hurt my feelings. I crawled away crying. Cameron collecting checks from the welfare system for himself, said he wanted to drop me to the low level of social security and rob the Burns money to secure Cameron and Mitchell monthly check. They bound me in a extra thick quilt on a hot June day and ordered my mom to take my temp. 101. They rushed me to the hospital and Bruce J. Brewer cut a chunk of muscle off my right upper knee thigh. Milwaukee laughs at me and says, ha-ha we crippled you. I have suffered drugging, rape, strangulation, 5 fractures, beatings in the face by Kurt Russel, Brewer sawed my ankle bone off with no pain med. after surgery. I am now being brow beat by a negro man whom somebody, not me, did a sex change on him. (LaNesha) I fear for my life in Milwaukee because I have been a constant target for being abused by Milwaukee people. Joanne Dolan was cruel to me too. Frederick J. Randolph jumped on me, forced LSD sown my throat, put me in a car and told me to drive. He set me up at the highway ramp. I would like to get out of here. I have a very small social security disability income that Negros have fought to take from me. Hugh was robbed and Tim and Tony stabbed and beated by negros for their paper route money. Eniment domain took Hugh and Yorikos happy home along with all my friends and neighbors on Newhall St. in Milwaukee. I wish I could get away from this Milwaukee set up. The Dolans went to George and Gracies house to demand money. Joanne did not share with me. She makes me pay for everything. Joanne Dolan built herself 65 Pick n Save stores and her husband Wesly Gray, walmart. Wes stole my two sons from me Adam and Daniel, MY gift form God/Jesus and used them in every horrific way possible. I have been sitting by myself with no callers, no help . Please help me escape this selfish plot againt my life from my famous dad George. Love you, Bonnie — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2605:A000:140E:84A4:3CC1:8116:EF86:F27A (talk) 12:41, 6 June 2019 (UTC)

Radio Adverts

In the mid-1970s Mr. Burns performed a series of radio ads for Brentwood Savings in Los Angeles California. He used the tag line "A great place to visit your money." An employee of Brentwood told me that Mr. Burns attended their Christmas party, and his wit was well enjoyed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LorenzoB (talkcontribs) 15:33, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
