Talk:George E. Lane (historian)

His name is "George E. Lane", not "George A. Lane"

edit

"George A. Lane" was a different man, a Jesuit priest who authored books entitled "Christian Spirituality", "Chicago Churches and Synagogues: An Architectural Pilgrimage", and he was a co-author of "Interpersonal Communication: A Worktext for Self-understanding and Growth in Personal Relations". He was president of Loyola Press in Chicago. His full name was "George Alphonsus Lane"; he was born in Evanston, Illinois on July 29, 1934 and died on November 12, 2023 at Colombiere Center in Clarkston, Michigan (age 89). (Vital statistics from his obituary at https://www.desmondfuneralhome.com/obituaries/Fr-George-A-Lane-SJ?obId=29892607).
As to the man who is the historian and expert on Mongols in Iran, the middle initial of his name is "E", as you can see in:
1. https://iranicaonline.org/articles/tusi-nasir-al-din-bio
and
2. https://www.google.com/books/edition/Early_Mongol_Rule_in_Thirteenth_Century/G_KBAgAAQBAJ?hl=en&gbpv=0 (originally published in 2003 as Dr. Lane's PhD Thesis)
How did this mixup begin? It seems to have begun due to a mistake in the Google Book page https://www.google.com/books/edition/The_Phoenix_Mosque_and_the_Persians_of_M/LktmDwAAQBAJ?hl=en&gbpv=0 which shows George's name as "George A. Lane".
Now, to correct the problem --
Because there are so many men named "George Lane" who have Wikipedia pages (see the disambiguation page George Lane), I propose renaming this article to: "George E. Lane (historian)" and I will forthwith attempt to do so. 05:10, 22 October 2024 (UTC) Mksword (talk) 05:10, 22 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

I just performed that renaming. The renaming succeeded. 05:18, 22 October 2024 (UTC) Mksword (talk) 05:18, 22 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
