Regarding the Kessler Quotation from K.C.: A History of Kansas City, Missouri

edit

The large block quote credited to Kessler is not accurate. After checking the original source used here, K.C.: A history of Kansas City, Missouri by Brown and Dorsett (pp.163-164) it's clear that this paragraph was mostly the authors paraphrasing another secondary work, City Beautiful Movement in Kansas City by William H. Wilson (see Brown p.275). The original source material credited is the first annual "Report of the Board of Park and Boulevard Commissioners of Kansas City, Mo." (October 12, 1893).Source A few portions of the larger block quotation from Brown can be found in the report, but according to the Kessler Society of Kansas City, those portions were written by August R. Meyer, and not Kessler, as they do not appear in the Engineer's report [see source above]. The quotation marks as they appear on the Wikipedia page are also significantly different from the original text, which only quotes one or two sentences total (which should be credited to Meyer). So overall, this is not a real quotation that can be attributed to George Kessler. UliBretzel (talk) 02:47, 14 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
