Earthquake Survivability
editI notice a project to increase earthquake resistence was due to finish in Spring 2006 ~ more than a year ago as i write. Has it indeed been finished? Cheers, 216.232.6.200 18:04, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Lowest section of roadway in all of Canada
editAt 25 m below sea level, this appears to be the lowest section of roadway in all of Canada JimWae (talk) 04:48, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
Clearance
editGeorge Massey Tunnel#Height Limit The tunnel has a posted height limit of 4.15 m (13 ft 7 in)… Is this the available clearance (structure gauge) or the maximum height of the vehicles (loading gauge)? Peter Horn User talk 21:20, 18 February 2015 (UTC) Peter Horn User talk 21:21, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
- Semi-trailers are now generally 13 ft 6 in or 4,115 mm tall. Would they need the ferry? Peter Horn User talk 01:16, 13 March 2015 (UTC)
- US height has been 13'6" since forever, I would think Canada was the same. One inch is not enough clearance to get a truck under. I would think loading gauge, if the tunnel was built that large that recently they wouldn't have made it a foot too low for trucks. My opinion. Sammy D III (talk) 21:59, 15 March 2015 (UTC)
- The difference between 13'6" and 13'7" is rounding 4.1148 m to 4.15 m during metrication? Sammy D III (talk) 00:38, 16 March 2015 (UTC)
- 4.1148 m would be rounded to 4.115 m and 13 ft 7 in or 4,140 mm does not need to be rounded. Peter Horn User talk 23:33, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
- Make that 13 ft 7 in or 4.14 m. Peter Horn User talk 23:37, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
- That .14 is an awkward number, isn't it? Rounding up to 4.5 m (14 ft 9 in) would be noticeable. You can't round down, 4 m (13 ft 1 in) would make existing trucks illegal.
- I would think that only having a couple of hits each year means that thousands of van trailers make it. What would hit? Maybe some machine loaded too high? Pickup truck on top of an auto transporter?
- Things that make a couple of inches difference? Van trailer manufacturers must be assuming a certain fifth wheel height, construction tractors can be higher. Air suspension squats on acceleration and lifts on braking. I think that's the way, maybe reversed, but you can notice it. Maybe a sharp turn lifts the inside corner? Pothole makes you bounce? A couple of inches in the real world.
- Have a nice day. Sammy D III (talk) 16:53, 28 March 2015 (UTC)

Merge Proposal
editAgainst - I don't think this merge would be right because the British Columbia Toll Highways and Bridges Authority has a lot more to do with BC than just the Massey Tunnel. I updated the article with new information and a citation about it. if anything, it should be merged into the BC Ministry of Transportation if a merge were to take place. 5 Replacement
editJune 29, 2017 a new government was asked to form with members from the NDP and the Green Party, both parties campaigned against the 10 lane bridge proposal. New premier designate John Horgan has said they will take the recommendations of the GVRD mayors council, who voted against the 10 lane bridge. This will all change in the next few months, but Wikipedia should be talking about how to fit this in. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.6.158.126 (talk) 16:40, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
- Yeah, I saw news regarding it's unknown status. It turns out that they're doing a "independent technical review" that should be complete in 2018. https://news.gov.bc.ca/releases/2017TRAN0230-001540
We need to certainly edit the timeline in accordance to this. Cganuelas (talk) 20:48, 18 October 2017 (UTC)
