editGeorge Syme was the Reeve of York West when Toronto was annexed. He owned lands near Jane and St. Clair known as Tory Glen where he was a Gentleman Gardner. (see Historical Summary of York Township) His father was also a gardner and named George Syme. James Syme was his great grandfather who arrived in Toronto from Edinburgh, Scotland. James Syme was married to Margaret Allan. (see Historical Papers - Toronto)
