Relationship of Walter and Dottin
editIt is stated that George Walter and Abel Rous Dottin were related. This perhaps can be established, in the form that they were third cousins. Some of these Caribbean relationships are not very well documented. I make it out this way:
- George Walter was son of Edward Newton Walter, son of Alleyne Walter, son of Lucy Walter nee Alleyne who married John Walter;
and
- Abel Rous Dottin was son of Abel Dottin II, son of Abel Dottin I, son of Mary Dottin nee Alleyne who married William Dottin,
Lucy and Mary Alleyne being sisters, daughters of Abel Alleyne (died 1706) and Elizabeth Denzy.
Much of this is on https://www.ucl.ac.uk/lbs/, in Burke, and on WikiTree, the latter not qualifying as a reliable source in general. It is also stated elsewhere that Robert Johnston and Abel Rous Dottin were related.
Some fairly heroic research would be required to sort this all out, to Wikipedia standards. As an illustration of the thesis of West India influence on the early railway boom, it is quite striking. Charles Matthews (talk) 20:02, 18 April 2017 (UTC)
