What's this all about? Tringov doesn't qualify as a "living" person any more; see below. -- Bill-on-the-Hill 21:44, 12 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Confirmation of the date of death?

edit

Can anyone confirm 2000 as the correct date of death for Tringov? The 2004 Bulgarian Open was called the Tringov Memorial, but I don't know if that was the first year that it was a memorial. Quale 06:00, 14 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Well, there is this from a Yugoslav chess site: "Visestruki sampion Bugarske GM Georgi Tringov umro je u Plovdivu 2.07.2000 godine." This isn't a language I speak, but I surmise that it means he died on July 2, 2000. Anyone with the appropriate language skills want to confirm this? I have nothing (yet) on the comparable date-of-death issue for Milko Bobotsov. -- Bill-on-the-Hill 17:30, 15 September 2005 (UTC)Reply
Can anyone confirm so we can remove the "Living People" category? -SpuriousQ 13:09, 22 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
The German-language article for him gives a July 2000 death date, without any sources (and with a different date than the above citation). If your German is up to the job, you might inquire there as well. I'm pretty sure that the text above does mean that he died on 2 July 2000, and it is from a site that should be reasonably authoritative. -- Bill-on-the-Hill 14:35, 22 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
The Bulgarian-language article indicates this as well. I posted there (in English), we'll see if anyone responds. -SpuriousQ 05:10, 23 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
As a Bulgarian, I confirm that Georgi Tringov died in 2000. There's one online newspaper that also states this: Maritza Today ([1], and also the Internet edition of Sega newspaper, talking in 2001 about a tournament held in the memory of Tringov [2]. He died for sure on the specified date. HTH, --webkid 12:21, 23 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Case closed. Thanks webkid. -SpuriousQ 13:06, 23 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
