The article should beging with a definition
editThe article should begin with a defintion, saying what the GB *are* -- and not what they *aren't*. All the best, --Jorge Stolfi (talk) 01:56, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
Flawed definition
editThe current intro:
- The German Baptists have roots in Anabaptist theology and practice, generally speaking.
not likely. A movement never have roots in ideas. It has its root in a foundation performed by a bunch of persons using a certain idea for the foundation. The German Baptists have the root in Radical Pietism and Mennonites, according to Schwarzenau Brethren, making them just about half Anabaptist, because the Radical Pietism prob provided them with a certain culture. So the correct sentence should prob be something like:
- The German Baptist movement was founded according to Anabaptist and Radical Pietist thoughts
or some such. Rursus dixit. (mbork3!) 22:02, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
- Okay I'm not sure that I understand your objection, but if you want to amend the text, go for it. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 04:17, 9 June 2010 (UTC)
Merge into Schwarzenau Brethren
editI think this article should be deleted entirely and redirected to Schwarzenau Brethren. If there is any unique content, it should be merged. Does anyone think I'm missing something? Sondra.kinsey (talk) 04:07, 10 December 2015 (UTC)
- @Sondra.kinsey: Agreed: "German Baptists", "Dunkers/Tunkers", and "Brethren" all refer to the same group. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 06:07, 10 December 2015 (UTC)
::Conversion to a disambiguation page looks like a better idea, to include links to North American Baptist Conference, Schwarzenau Brethren, then all the many Schwarzenau Brethren-associated groups. Klbrain (talk) 20:20, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
- I think that was mad between Christmas and New Year; a dab page for German Baptist would be a nightmare to disambiguate and it is worth discussing all together. Therefore, switching to support for the merge from German Baptist to Schwarzenau Brethren. Klbrain (talk) 22:42, 10 January 2018 (UTC)
