If anyone is still here after nearly six years, the book "U-boat Far from Home" is an excellent, well-illustrated and very comprehensive tale of this submarine.
Also, if you visit this page: http://www.taskforce72.org , there are a quite a few submarine enthusiasts there. They have built an absolutely fabulous working scale model of the U862. As a part of this process they spent vasts amount of time sourcing original information about the U862 from Europe. ~~
