actually two organizations?
editThis statement of Antonicek goes back to a text by Reinhold Bernhardt (1930) who gives no source, however. The idea that there were actually two organizations (to be distinguished by a changed name) is somewhat obsolete. Currently musicologists as Edward Olleson (Grove Music online) or Ulrich Leisinger (director of Mozarteum in Salzburg) say that the "Society" worked all the time from 1786 to 1803. It would be wrong to think that this was a full-fledged "organization" with a definite name and membership, but it was rather a loose grouping which was addressed by different names. See the German article with many sources. Mautpreller (talk) 13:45, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
