Talk:Getrag 260 transmission

Latest comment: 12 years ago by Dataxpress in topic Notability?

In the lubricant section, 80w gear oil is listed. I have a BMW525i, which, according to the other articles here uses this transmission. The transmission is capable of taking 80w gear oil, but usually uses ATF ( I know that sounds odd, but it is true ).

Actually the owners manual (US and Canada only) is very specific about the option of using other than 80w gear oil and even more surprisingly it specifies "alternatively single grade HD engine oil (mineral oil based) SAE20/30/40 specification API-SE or SF". In our cold environment here in Canada I have experienced situations with regular gear oil in a manual transmission where, although the car would start and run fine, one would be unable to move because the thick gear oil would not allow the transmission to turn without stalling the engine. In that case I used automatic transmission fluid; I would not do so with my 525i. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.91.107.232 (talk) 12:10, 30 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

I now have an account so anyone wanting information from the owner's manual may contact me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Damascusdave (talkcontribs) 12:33, 30 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Notability?

edit

I would think that a transmission used in four different brands of cars would suffice as notable. For one, I know of a strong following behind BMW E30 enthusiasts who would crave this kind of information. As a result, I would like to remove the Notability flag.
