Article

edit

This meme is getting pretty notable now being referenced at final version of MotorStorm. I think a separated article is really needed now. --Ciao 90 21:22, 6 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Picture

edit

Okay, is that seriously the best picture that we could find? There's nothing larger out there? 71.202.217.229 02:05, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

That's the first thing i found, and was really hungry at the time. i ment to find a better one later, but i was REALLY hungry and a bit confused. thats what i came out with. yes, lets enlarge it a little...--Randoman412 18:38, 21 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Elite beat agents reference

edit

That bit with the Elite beat agents supposedly having an intentional reference to massive damage is highly unlikely, as it was made before the conference. It's most likely just a coincidence. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 207.233.120.2 (talk) 17:31, 2 May 2007 (UTC).Reply

Pokemon Diamond and Pearl

edit

Don't forget about the reference in Pokemon Diamond Pearl- see [1] (Pause at 1:11)

Not every instance of the phrase "massive damage" is a reference to this! 76.200.100.206 21:20, 12 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
I'd have to agree. Reading through the article, I got the feeling that a lot of items in the list were questionable. The mere use of the phrase "massive damage" isn't necessarily a reference to the PS3 crab. Because really, are the words "massive damage" really THAT unusual? --169.233.5.115 (talk) 22:04, 29 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
"Massive damage" as a gaming term originated as far as I know in Dungeons & Dragons, like so much gaming lore. Possibly AD&D 2nd Edition but not certain on that. 82.132.136.199 (talk) 23:51, 16 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Pokemon Battle Revolution

edit

Someone said they said it in Pokemon Battle Revolution, though they said "might" based on what they think could appear in the game, oh how he/she was right. http://pokemon-games.com/pokemonbattlerev/ Hilight Reel - Mime Jr. - Watch Video - MASSIVE DAMAGE! Added back up.

Better demonstration of the origin

edit

I think this youtube movie is better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2g1fr5vk72M or search for "Giant Enemy Crab! Massive Damage mix"... shows the whole thing with only one cut.

Nominate this for deletion

edit

Since this article obviously isn;t intellagent at all I nominate it for deletion —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.185.24.4 (talk) 01:06, 20 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

There are few things more valuable on Wikipedia than valid articles on ridiculous, but true, things. That's an edge that conventional encyclopedias cannot match because of either size or manpower constraints. Neither should we delete content on the basis that its subject is unusual - as opposed to the content's merit - or distasteful - as we have one of the largest userbases anywhere on the Net, and if we allow being unpleasant to someone as a deletion reason we can save everyone some time by blowing up the encyclopedia and going home. Also note, he said, typing to any onlookers since the previous message was left in September, that it's usually more fair and certainly more polite to work with involved editors or experts of the field first before nominating for deletion - and politeness is no small thing in an environment such as this. For one thing, less extreme measures are often called for; for another, an article often does not contain all relevant information regarding its worth; for yet another, deletion nomination has too many problems on its own to be used lightly, which is to say that I just recently saw six people vote speedy delete in an AfD where the second line of the nomination established why this wasn't applicable.

Anyway. I'd be against this article if the subject was just an internet meme, but it appears to have integrated itself into the commercial, multi-billion-dollar industry at a ridiculous pace and is on a whole other level than fandom jokes. --Kizor 22:16, 22 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Probably trolling; if not, I hope the irony of spelling "intelligent" incorrectly isn't lost upon you, 76.185.24.4. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.158.186.73 (talk) 17:07, 9 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:GiantEnemyCrab.jpg

edit

Image:GiantEnemyCrab.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Spiderman: Friend or Foe?

edit

I was watching a video review of this SPiderman game, and at one point, they showed a brief gameplay clip halfway through the review and you can clearly see the words, "MASSIVE DAMAGE" at the top of the screen.

Luminous Arc 2

edit

One of the characters is fighting a giant enemy crab and a character says something to the lines of it being ok because he is attacking it's weak point. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.130.43.191 (talk) 11:34, 5 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Possible reference in oblivion

edit

In the elder scrolls oblivion the cave greenmead cave has a giant mud crab, pretty much anywhere is a weak point for massive damage, its just a normal mud crab, except big.

  • Considering that Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was released prior to 2006's E3 conference, it's highly unlikely (in fact, impossible) that this is a reference to the Genji joke. That line should probably be deleted. 72.71.219.212 (talk) 16:26, 12 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
There's also a mod made by a fan that creates a very, very large enemy crab that walks the lake shore. 69.62.203.81 (talk) 22:41, 1 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia reference

edit

The new Castlevania game for the DS, Order of Ecclessia has a giant crab boss in the game. If you defeat it without taking damage, you earn a medal, and it's item description is "Medal awarded for defeating the giant enemy crab, Brachyura." I have a screenshot as proof of this. http://img300.imageshack.us/img300/3449/brachyuraik8.png --82.25.38.228 (talk) 21:48, 24 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen

edit

I removed the mention of the line "Your Pokemon have weak points" in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen. Not every use of "weak point" is, by itself, a reference to this meme. More to the point, the dialogue used in FireRed/LeafGreen is taken from Pokémon Red and Blue, which predate the Giant Enemy Crab meme by a number of years. Hence, this particular case is definitely not a reference. Aaronak (talk) 07:14, 9 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

The World Ends With You

edit

I've played through this game and I don't recall ever seeing any references to this. Could anyone verify this? I think they may have it confused with Shin Megami Tensei for the DS. 86.167.98.229 (talk) 13:36, 12 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

I side with you on that - I played through the whole game and saw no references. 69.62.203.81 (talk) 22:42, 1 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
I third this. None spring to mind at all. GW(talk) 21:39, 7 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Monster Hunter Freedom 2/Unite

edit

There's a Level 1 Hunters Guild mission entitled "The Giant Enemy Crab" where you have to hunt a Daimyo Hermitaur, a large crab monster. I could tell right away it was a reference. Someone please add it to the article. M.K. (talk) 05:31, 11 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Titan Maximum

edit

Episode 4 has a giant enemy crab. I haven't seen it recently enough to remember if there was a weak point/massive damage reference, but I know there was a reference to it not having a crotch (which would be the weak point in that show). Anyone know if there is a reference? 99.155.25.71 (talk) 09:01, 8 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

How do you get the massive damage anyhow?

edit

The title really says it all. Is there any way to actually flip the crab over or what? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.173.80.55 (talk) 20:38, 18 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Another reference?

edit

A visual novel from Japan, no less. Released in Dec 2006 and 2008. I caught this little tidbit in a translation.

One of his songs is called "Giant Ennemy Crab" and uses originals voices remixed in his song. Also known for Rainbow Tylenol, should we add these use in the list? FloD13 (talk) 19:32, 11 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
