Merge Martin's

Seems weird that Giant of Carlisle and Giant of Landover are both on the same page ... but Martin's is on a separate page. Both Giants had completely different foundings and histories and were, in fact, separate until the late 1990s. Martin's has its own history, but now Martin's is nothing but a different name places on Giant of Carlisle stores. My suggestion: merge Martin's entry with this one. As someone who's shopped at the Martin's store in Waynesboro that's mentioned in the article, I'll agree with you on your point that Martin's is basically a different nameplate for Giant of Carlisle. Judging by the photo of the Giant store, it's basically the same thing. However, I don't think a straight merge is necessarily what the doctor ordered. Since Giant of Carlisle and Giant of Landover began as completely separate companies, have basically separate histories, and are still basically operated separately (my Martin's Bonuscard does NOT work at Giant of Landover!), we should do a bit of merging and splitting.

Here's my plan: First off, split the current GIANT Food article three ways. Make an article for Giant of Carlisle, another article for Giant of Landover, and then the current GIANT Food article should be somewhat of a disambiguation page. Have a paragraph for both Giant of Carlisle and Giant of Landover, with {{main}} tags above each of those paragraphs, and then the section on the unrelated "Giant Food Markets of Broome County, New York" should remain as-is. Then merge Martin's into the Giant of Carlisle article, and the "GIANT-Stop & Shop" bit would go with Giant of Landover.

Giantway?

Anyone know what connection, if any, the (defunct?) Giantway chain had with any of these Giants, and if so, which one(s)?

The store I'm most familiar with was located in Petosky, MI, and was Giantway until some point in the 80's when the name changed to Giant. At some point in the 90's it became (and remains to this day) a Glen's.

Glen's is pretty much a straight up grocery store/supermarket, but Giantway/Giant seemed to be more in the line of a Meijer's or Super WalMart/K-Mart/Target, in that it sold lots of stuff you'd never really expect see in a grocery. Clothes, toys, electronics, music, etc, although not quite on the scale as those other stores.

I have fond memories of the Giantway, so I've been attempting to look up information about it, but can't really find much other than references to "such and such store (formerly a Giantway)" which does nothing but tell me I didn't just imagine such a store existed. 12.75.24.195 07:25, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

Giantway wasn't connected to the other Giant chains at all. I found a 1990 phone book that lists their company HQ in Bay City. I remember one in East Tawas and two in Alpena, and have found many other former Giantways. I don't know jack about the company, however - otherwise I'd have written a page on them already.
