Improvement drive

edit

If you contribute to this page, please leave your name and a description of your goals on this talk page or leave me a message here so that we can better coordinate our content. If anyone either has photos of Gilmour's campus or would like to take some, you are welcome to add them to the article. I am hoping to take some soon to add some flair to the article. Thanks, --Fuscob 01:07, 4 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I am heading up an improvement drive for this article. If anybody has any material they'd like to contribute, it would be welcome - either add it to the page or leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks, Fuscob 22:43, 1 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
It's been a while since I've visited this page. I'm sorry to see that it has lost quite a bit of its formerly NPOV text. I am a Gilmour alumnus, and I'm slightly ashamed to see what has become of the content here (and hopeful that it was not someone on Gilmour's faculty or staff making these clearly biased changes). It now reads like a brochure or press release, and I intend to restore it to an encyclopedic format following WP:NPOV guidelines. Regards, Fuscob (talk) 23:59, 4 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Although it's been a few years since my previous comments, I'm glad to see that the promotional tone of this article was cleaned up substantially. It's much more appropriate for Wikipedia now. Fuscob (talk) 00:58, 14 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Cleanup

edit

I have just done a huge cleanup of the article, removing self-promotion, information that doesn't belong, and other stuff. This isn't a personal attack on any of your writting, I just want to make the encyclopedia consistant following set guidelines and NPOV rules. Thanks. --mboverload@ 02:06, 7 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

What is the criteria for being a notable Gilmour graduate? I ask this because there is a person listed as a 'Snow Plow specialist' which doesn't sound particularly notable.SailorAlphaCentauri 08:11, 11 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

The photo of the building ws not fair use. As it was a generic "building" type of photo, it's purpose in the article was decorative, not informative. - brenneman {L} 06:13, 4 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Copied from User_talk:Aaron_Brenneman#Gilmour_Academy.

You removed the image of the Classroom Building from the page Gilmour Academy - I am wondering why. It was not a "generic building photo," but rather a photo of the school's main classroom building and one of its most-traveled outdoor areas. Thanks, Fuscob 00:29, 12 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

End copied section.
The relevent text here is "The material must contribute significantly to the article (e.g. identify the subject of an article, or specifically illustrate relevant points or sections within the text) and must not serve a purely decorative purpose." (Emphasis original.) This building photo is generic not in a pejorative sense, but merely in that there is not a representation of a unique aspect supported by text in the article. - brenneman {L} 04:11, 12 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

It is illustrative of the "Campus" section of the article. The classroom building pictured is specifically referenced in that section. Fuscob 19:17, 12 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Gilmour Crest.gif

edit

Image:Gilmour Crest.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:38, 5 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Suggested Edits for Gilmour Academy

SUGGESTION ADDITION TO THE ARTICLE

History Tudor House, the historic mansion on campus that houses Gilmour's Admission, Advancement, Business, Communication and Marketing Offices was completed in 1924 after being commissioned by the founder of the Cleveland Foundry Co., Francis E. Drury. Drury built Tudor House (known then as Cedar Hill Farm) as a near-replica of his home on Downtown Cleveland Euclid Avenue's Millionaires' Row. Cedar Hill Farm was known to be the Drury country estate. Tudor House consists of 41 rooms and 14 fireplaces - each made with marble from a different country. In 1945, ten years after the deaths of Francis Drury and his wife Julia, Br. Theophane Schmitt and Br. Gonzaga Day of the Brothers of Holy Cross purchased Cedar Hill Farm. The Brothers oversaw the renovation of the property and founded Gilmour Academy named after Bishop Richard Gilmour, the second bishop of Cleveland.

As Gilmour Academy opened its doors, 45 boys were admitted as freshmen to become the first class at the academy as the Class of 1950. At that time, all classes were conducted in Tudor House where the students and the nine faculty brothers lived. In 1968, the Sisters of the Sacred Heart purchased 35 acres from Gilmour Academy and opened the all-girl Glen Oak School a year later. In 1974, Gilmour added a Middle School at the old St. Vincent Hall (now called Holy Cross House).

After 11 years of separate institutions, Br. Robert Lavelle (Headmaster of Gilmour Academy from 1979-2015) spearheaded the merger of Gilmour Academy and Glen Oak in 1982, making the class of 1983 the first co-ed class.Once Glen Oak was absorbed into Gilmour Academy, Gilmour transitioned that building into the Gilmour Lower School which today, houses 18-month olds through 6th Graders.

Athletics Suggested change ->  Gilmour's athletic teams are known as the Lancers. The school competes in the Ohio High School Athletic Association and the North Coast League.[13]

TO THIS

Gilmour's 58 athletic teams are known as the Lancers. The school competes in the  Ohio High School Athletic Association.

Add this to athletics section

Known for its strong hockey ties, Gilmour offers seven hockey teams, five men's and two women's.

Also, please address my question-

On the page when I google Gilmour Academy, it shows a tax id and a parent organization...both of which are incorrect. Please remove. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marisaleemartin (talkcontribs) 14:30, August 26, 2021 (UTC)

Do you have sources for all of those suggestions? Removing "North Coast League" isn't particularly controversial, but we're not going to add "known for its strong hockey ties" unless you can provide a reliable third-party source that establishes that. This is Wikipedia; we don't control what Google displays. OhNoitsJamie Talk 14:41, 26 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
