Are we sure that the medallion shown is a portrait of this Girolamo Scotto? I think it depicts the magician of the same name who performed mentalist and card tricks for various Royal audiences, including Elizabeth I of England in 1594 and perhaps 1602, and is said to have lived until 1610 or so.
