Misc
editThe article says "ENROLLMENT: Over 700" then further down it says "close to 700, a limit imposed..."
- I'll check that- based on the assumption of 28 students per home group, 6 home groups in years 8-10, 5 in years 11 and 12, gives 784, but I think most home groups are smaller, more like 25 students, leaving an estimated size of 700 students.--|333173|3|_||3 02:40, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
I ahve a better copy of the Gleeson Logo (cleaneed up the ugly GIF on the old intranet page in Photoshop when I wwas working on the design for the Leaders Tie), I'll correct the colour scheme (It is normally shown in maroon with white edging, cross, and backgroung. I'll upload it at home though, the upload will count for a massive chunk of my internet credit at school (the school internet is slow and useless anyway since we have to use the CEO's useless internet, instead of getting a cheap ADSL plan from Internode or someone (we cannot use ADSL2+ since we are on a Telstra DSLAM limiting internet to 1500/256)).
sakced president
editI reinstated this because it was important in the deveelopmemntn of the SRC, since the process of removing him ment that the clique of Yr. 12's who controllded the council had vurtually total control (we only lost 2 votes in the remainder of the year, one on the colour of the SRC ties, and one on a policy regarding email use, in both of which cases the group was devided), and gave power to thaose who had not even stood for election, because all matters were decided in physics and chemistry (because the new president and several key leaders were in those classes, and they were close to the meetings), and then checked with a small number of others. This coming year, the decsionwill now have to be made as to wethe to decrease the size of the council, solidify the roles of the comittees, and make the body more democratic (which would involve limiting the Student Issues Comittee, which would have virtually unlimited power, if it were needed), as Josh McDermid would want, or letting the current system develop further, making hte council a rubber stamp, which is most likely to happen, especially since Danny Deptual (Assistant Deputy Principal) would support this, since so long as the clique suport him (which it probalby will next year, unlike this year), he will be able to pass anything he like, which he has not done since Bret was sacked.
In previous years, most votes have been won by the small clique, but this year, when Bret became president, the juniors tended to vote for him personally, while the issues comittee was limited. THis was the main reason for opposition to him, not that the council was undemocratic (which was what we said), but that the wrong peeople had control, and were making hte wrong decisions. We therefore led him to waste his time on frivolities, and made plans to move against him, but only a couple of weeks before we were ready to force the other executive members to step down or support us, he was forced to resign. THus this is important in the development of student leadership at eh college.
Important Notes
editArticles need to be written in an encyclopedic style, and they must conform to wikipedia policies and guidelines. Especially important is WP:BLP which clearly states that any biographical material not directly related to the article, and any material that is not supported by references to verifiable sources, must be immediately removed.
When writing an article, it helps to consider what value the information actually has. In this case, is there any benefit to the reader in knowing the names of 12th year students? The answer is pretty clearly "no". Is there a benefit to the reader in knowing about the process of how the councils are elected and operated? "Yes", this is useful info that informs the reader, without bogging down in personal details that are largely irrelevant.
I'd like to encourage the editors of this article to review the manual of style. This is an extremely useful overview of how the article should be organized, and what info it should contain. As it stands now, this article contains some useful material, and parts of it are well-written, but it could use a lot of polish, and several verifiable references. Please consider this a challenge...are you up to it? Doc Tropics 22:43, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
One of the issues with Wikipedia is to ensure that the information is from a reliable source and is CORRECT! Some of the original information about Gleeson College is far from meeting this 'accuracy' criteria.
If the main editor of the Gleeson page would like to reveal himself/herself to me on this discussion page, I'd be happy to inform them of the corrections needed to be made...and there are many of them!
Regards...A staff member of the College.

- I had removed some of the most egregious examples of inappropriate material, but wanted to leave the article cleanup as an excercise for the students. If there are any concerns about blatantly erroneous or problematic info, you can leave a note here, or on my talkpage. Since this page can be viewed by the general public, concerns about accuracy are a top priority; I'll deal with them immediately. I would still like to see the students try to wikify the page and bring it into line with other school articles. Doc Tropics 18:21, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
- Magoo, just fix it yourself, it would be easier. THere are at least three current gleeson students editing this page, and to my certain knowledge Phil Alias Harry is used by a half-dozen students at least, since the creator of the account no longer uses it.
- nost of the facts would fail WP:NOR, but he details about the construction work are correct, since I copied them from the ten-year plans posted on the wall.
Legality
editOne of the staff members has told me that editing the page violates autralian law, which is totla BS as far as I can tell, though IANAL, Since hey are more worried about posts like the many on Techdirt referrring to the school, although I do not thenk that even Magoo has read them yet. THey couldtry to have the page deleted as non-notable, but I doubt that would be what tehy want. The mention of Fr. TOny is OK, since he would have given his permission if i asked, as has Fr. Gerry.
I will put up a link to the site.
