Editing of this and the main article - please read

edit

A friendly reminder to those who edit the page Glenn Carter - please do not remove discussions from this page or edit sourced material out of the main article.

Please read Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons (and Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Help if you are the subject of the article and have concerns).

If information is notable, npov and sourced with non-libellous, reliable, quality sources then it should be left in the article as per wikipedia guidelines. Many thanks Sassf (talk) 23:27, 21 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please DO NOT include any references to the Raelian Movement, as this is contentious to many people & has no relevance to the article whatsoever. It is purely a personal choice to be involved in the Movement & privacy needs to be respected. Thanks! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.168.144.26 (talk) 13:43, 25 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please do not delete comments by other editors. Privacy is not best sought by publishing a website which attracts attention to the topic. Nor is it best defended by an IP number rather than an editor with a Wikipedia account.KD Tries Again (talk) 20:18, 25 August 2008 (UTC)KD Tries AgainReply

Persistent censorship of this article.

edit

The "new" user Glecart is continuing the censorship of this article that began at least as early as 30 Jan 2008. Your arguments are insufficient. Your main claim is "privacy". Privacy is not top priority in Wikipedia BLP. Second, the material you are censoring is not in the least private in Glenn Carter's life. But it was good of you to finally create a user account, because this means you are accepting some measure of accountability for your actions. Hurmata (talk) 07:20, 27 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Glecart, further to the above comments, I noticed your most recent censoring of the article included the edit summary: we started this site to promote his PROFESSIONAL experience, not his PERSONAL one. Please add his Raelian stuff under the Raelian Wikipedia site. Information about Glenn Carter belongs in the article Glenn Carter. Wikipedia is not for promoting anybody and this is expressly against wiki rules. Please familiarise yourself with the policies and guidelines I linked further up the page and also What Wikipedia Is Not. Furthermore, no one user can 'own' an article and thus decide what should and should not be included. If information is reliably sourced, notable and specifically about Glenn Carter then it should be left in the article. Thanks, Sassf (talk) 10:12, 27 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

User "Gle[nn]cart[er]" will be difficult to reason with because they use words differently from most other people. For example, they use "site" (Web site) to mean "page" (Web page). Where Glecart says "we", appearances indicate there is no "we", but rather "I". Hurmata (talk) 11:11, 27 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

To whom it may concern (Hurmat??) - we don't know where to write this, so we're sticking it here so you can remove it later, as you always do.

Our intention with Glenn's Wikipedia site was to address his PROFESSIONAL experience & not his PRIVATE beliefs. There's a more APPROPRIATE Raelian site where his name can be mentioned, if you wish. We cruised along happily with only a handful of incidents over the last 18 months, but you've taken to becoming aggressive over the last few days & have seen fit to continually delete our attempts at establishing a site. Wikipedia's rules state that any controversial information can be deleted, so this is why we chose to do so.

We are disappointed that our first foray into Wikipedia has been so unpleasant. We've never meant to hurt anyone, but we're "newbies", still learning how this site works. Thank you to those who've bothered to offer CONSTRUCTIVE criticism & a big "BOO" to those (like Hurmat) who've offered DESTRUCTIVE criticism. We only wanted to have some fun & provide some pleasant relief in this troubled world we live in. Sorry we've failed & you dislike our attempts so much.

So go ahead now & delete this message - we won't bother posting here again. Hope you're happy that you've seen fit to drive people away. Write what you want to write, but make sure it's WELL SOURCED, as some of your "facts" have actually been incorrect. Papers are renowned for providing false information - better to get your facts from PEOPLE WHO KNOW.

Maybe Glenn's site should be closed down - it's now dealing more with his interest in Raelianism than his PROFESSIONAL work, the opposite of what we set out to do........ We have nothing against Raelianism, contrary to what you MAY think - we just don't feel THIS page is an appropriate place to make too much of it.

Sorry we've been such a pain in the bum, but we're entitled to our opinion whether you like it or not.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Glecart (talkcontribs) Glecart (talkcontribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic.

There appears to be a genuine misunderstanding of the purpose of Wikipedia here. This is an article about Glenn Carter which anyone can edit, so long as the information added is verifiable and otherwise conforms with Wikipedia policy. If Glecart is (or represents) Glenn Carter, he should definitely review the Wikipedia article[[1]] which explains how to manage a biographical article about yourself.KD Tries Again (talk) 15:08, 27 August 2008 (UTC)KD Tries AgainReply

It is not the first time that I see an unpleasant controversy involving the sr. Carter and initiative to enhance the fans in his work. Sad fact, loss of time and energy of those involved and more a demonstration of lack of emotional maturity. Very Sad... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bella Khandy (talkcontribs) 01:34, 4 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

You'll have to be more specific and explain what you're talking about. "Initiative to enhance the fans in his work" doesn't give us much to go on. Dayewalker (talk) 02:12, 4 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

The sentences I removed were problematic for a couple of reasons. First, there were two sources used to stitch together to make the point that the subject was falsely claiming an award. If there was a source that made this claim itself, that would be different, but we can't do the research ourselves (see Original Research). The second problem was the assertion that the website being used as the source was an official website for the subject. While the site does say "official" which is quite misleading, a quick review of it and other information on the subject pretty clearly indicates that this is a site run by a fan club and not representation from the subject. Since that makes it likely that the site has a great deal of bias and apparently not much in the way of fact checking, its not really a reliable source for information.
