Conflict of Interest tagging, disruptive editing and lack of Notability

edit

I have tagged this article for Conflict of Interest and Notability.

Conflict of Interest

I don't think this is all necessary; the article has not been edited since 2010. Article may end being deleted by AFD anyhow. --doncram 17:48, 17 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • Agljones has established a number of articles that fail basic Notability requirements. The subject of this article is an area at the roadside - there is no 'proper' side-road junction or other feature.
  • There appears to be very limited opportunity for race-spectator viewing, with little parking excepting a track entrance leading towards the farm. Race machines pass-by at extreme speed (190mph)
  • The one reference is very weak. The Manx-language place names entry cited is simply a listing of one scholar's interpretation of the Manx-Gaelic language old place names, and is a Primary source. It does not ascribe or confer any notability, being a passing-mention, exactly what Wikipedia warns against. It is not a valid reference for Notability
  • The area does not appear to have been written about regularly in any secondary sources to confirm that the article satisfies Wikipedia Notability requirement(s)
  • A new List-article has been established by doncram to accommodate any less-than-marginal, stand-alone articles. I am a significant contributor to the list article and I have already included an entry for Gob-ny-Geay
  • This article is unlikely to be expanded or have adequate secondary sources applied, so should be converted into a redirect to the list article.--Rocknrollmancer (talk) 22:36, 15 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
    • Hi, here as also with 2nd Milestone and pretty much also with Brandywell, Isle of Man there is virtually no specific content for the article (although the other two articles are padded out more with stuff not specific to those sites). I would support these being deleted outright or redirected to the List of named corners of the Snaefell Mountain Course list-article as appropriate (the Brandywell one should be redirected, IMHO). It's best to do this in a batch at AFD, in a small batch of not more than 5 articles, because from my observation multi-AFD discussions get bogged down when too many are discussed. How about doing an AFD for just these three? But if there other egregious ones that should be eliminated, this can wait for them to be added. --doncram
I've taken some months out of contributing to reduce the impression of WP:OWN and to avoid any edit-warring following User:Agljones' repeated deletions of prose and good historical sources (repeated from a previous sequence) based on his own original research, bigotry, insistence that the published sources are wrong (a common occurrence) and possibly other aspects connected to his Conflicts of Interest at Keppel Gate, Isle of Man.

Accordingly there is no pre-existing list of non-notable articles, only in my head. I am particularly concerned about passing-mention references being used out of context to try to ascribe Notability - to loosely quote from another editor's edit-summary ...these references need checking as we know how unreliable this editor is. I have already flagged-up Mather's Cross several months ago. I've also just found by chance my first Flickrwashed image at Commons, although I don't expect it's deliberate and is unused in any WP articles, but I guess a candidate for 'speedy'

Due to absences, I have a number of things to catch-up on, one going back to July 2016 where English motorcycling history has been re-written unwittingly by an American, and I will have to establish a cited-section with appropriate navigation. Most of the pages I put up to at Flickr back then (WP:LINKVIO for anyone else trying to cite from them) but I want to use it to demonstrate to the two editors concerned the corruption of WP. On another instance October 2016, someone has posted out of context: "Rocknrollmancer's opinion that they are "a joke" and "completely unsubstantiated, historically" is merely his opinion", whereas the actual quote as I wrote was "I blogged him years ago and he turned it into a joke - interesting point of view, but completely unsubstantiated, historically".

These are just two things I have to deal with, therefore, as always, I will be editing in fits and starts.

I will also re-visit Keppel Gate and Brandywell, together with other intended-expansion including requesting choice-image licences to be changed, as I am/was unsure that the opportunity for image-use would be deleted in a POV-pushing re-write of the articles, and I don't want to ultimately disappoint the image-owners.--Rocknrollmancer (talk) 15:49, 16 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Let's discuss AFDs or other resolution of this article, along with others, at Talk:List of named corners of the Snaefell Mountain Course. --doncram 17:48, 17 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
