Listing websites in the "Sources" section

edit

@Gerda Arendt I see that last week you put some of the websites we cite in this article in the "Sources" section. I think it looks better and is easier to follow if we don't do that (also because most of the websites are only sited once). Looking at the good articles which use the short-form notation for references, this seems to be standard practice (e.g. Vietnam National Museum of History, Arts Club of Chicago). Is it okay if I delete these from the "Sources" section and leave them as full references (as I have just done now with the Freies Deutsches Hochstift website)? Thanks, Medarduss (talk) 08:05, 8 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

If you have to say "Cited sources", standard format for Featured articles I know, the uncited ones being "Further reading". --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:34, 8 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I don't understand your reply. I think all of the sources we use now are cited, I just wanted to remove the websites we cite from the "sources" section, because they don't really work with short-form notation and are better left in "references". Medarduss (talk) 08:40, 8 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
I may have misunderstood from the beginning. What exactly do you mean? References - in this article - should have just names and date, Sources gives the full citation. --
If you look at the references for the Arts Club of Chicago it might be easier. See there, the books are cited with short-form notation, and the websites using full-length references. I was asking if it's ok to do that with our references, e.g. instead of "Besuch 2022" the full URL and then remove the website from the "Sources" section. I think it makes more sense because "Besuch 2022" makes it seem as if someone called "Besuch" has written the article Medarduss (talk) 09:14, 8 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Where Goethe wrote Werther

edit

Medarduss, Gerda Arendt questioned the existing statement "It is also the place where the poet wrote his famous works Götz von Berlichingen, The Sorrows of Young Werther and the first drafts of Faust" here.

This is probably the house's main claim to fame, so would you be able to add a section on Goethe in Frankfurt to the history section? There seems to be enough information in the de:Johann Wolfgang von Goethe article, but not enough references. I agree with Gerda that references which are not connected to Frankfurt tourism or the Hochstift would be preferable. Then the lead could list the most famous works written in the house without needing its own reference. TSventon (talk) 16:03, 9 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Sure, that makes sense, and I agree it would be best to have a non-Hochstift or Frankfurt tourism reference. I will hopefully look into it tomorrow. Thanks for still looking over the article :) Medarduss (talk) 18:09, 9 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
One possible source is https://www.britannica.com/biography/Johann-Wolfgang-von-Goethe, but hopefully you are spoilt for choice. TSventon (talk) 18:24, 9 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Added a better claim and put a little bit in the main body about Goethe writing those books there. Do you think we should have more detail of Goethe's life in the house? Medarduss (talk) 08:48, 10 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
I was thinking of a summary of Goethe's movements like you have done, but it should probably mention Wetzlar. And then we could mention when he wrote Götz, Werther and Urfaust to show he was in Frankfurt, I say we because I could possibly do it at some point. I was thinking of moving the bits about Goethe to a separate subsection of the history section, but that is less important. As to details of Goethe's life in the house, I don't know what the sources say, so I can't say much. TSventon (talk) 09:22, 10 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
