edit- The link to the Uncanoonuc website is dead.
- Linking to photos of poorhouses, even if one of them is in Goffstown, doesn't seem encyclopedic
- The link to Genealogy Buff is not Goffstown specific
- If the photograph of Main Street is public domain, I encourage you to upload it to Wikimedia Commons. Otherwise a link to a book, which is not public domain and is not Goffstown specific doesn't add to the article
Please clarify your reason for re-adding these, just so's we can all agree :) -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 15:02, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
The thing I noticed primarily was that you had removed the link to the online town records, which seem to me like an extremely valuable resource it would be unreasonable to exclude. Your reasons for removing the other ones seem sound, I apologize for making assumptions. --❨Ṩtruthious ℬandersnatch❩ 06:44, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
- Yeh, the redlink to Footnote.com made it seem like an unlikely addition. I'm still not convinced it's a good link to have in the article. it's a general site, not specific to Goffstown, or even NH. But I don't feel too strong about it :) -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 07:31, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
I'm glad we can compromise. Yeah, I realize that redlinks make people antsy, though I don't think they should... I probably ought to just remove it. But the entire site not being about Goffstown doesn't seem like reason to drop the link to me - I see External Links to individual documents hosted somewhere all the time and this is like half of the town reports since the town was founded.
Thanks for being reasonable, in any case.--❨Ṩtruthious ℬandersnatch❩ 09:50, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
Oops, wait, it's just ten years' worth... but it still seems relevant to me. Though I'll add a note about the dates. --❨Ṩtruthious ℬandersnatch❩ 09:54, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
- Looks good - thanks :) -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 16:21, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
Just out of curiosity I went to the GenealogyBuff site and found a way to get a Goffstown-specific page, which I added to the article. But I'm not especially attached to it, feel free to delete it if you want to.--❨Ṩtruthious ℬandersnatch❩ 16:45, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
Merge
editUsually sub-articles like History of Goffstown, New Hampshire don't get split out on their own unless they make the original article too long. That history page could easily be merged into this article. Thoughts? -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 18:38, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
- Support - I think you're right. While the current text in the history article is three long paragraphs, some of the information in it is already in the main town article, so by the time someone wrestles it into shape (any volunteers?...) it shouldn't be too out of proportion with the rest of the article.--Ken Gallager (talk) 19:24, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
Neutral - Doesn't sound bad to me, I just wanted to get that material up here. Although I would note that Goffstown has had some very active historians and there are several entire books on the subject, so it's quite feasible that a thorough history article might eventually dwarf the main article. --❨Ṩtruthious ℬandersnatch❩ 21:05, 31 March 2008 (UTC) Also, I wanted to point out to someone how funny and Victorian this sentence is from the 1859 material: "In these early days, the use of intoxicating drinks was very common; and society here has not yet wholly recovered from the evil influences which such a practice engenders." --❨Ṩtruthious ℬandersnatch❩ 21:11, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
- That's almost a t-shirt! =D Where in the world did you find that quote? -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 02:09, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
"SUPPORT" the Goffstown article should have a history section; I wrote the Saint Anselm College wiki and I incorporated a history section to the article.--Ericci8996 (talk) 02:17, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
