Stylistic Concerns
editThis entire article reads like an advertisement or investor's brochure and was clearly written by someone from the company. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.117.47.251 (talk) 20:17, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
Absolutely agree! This is an ad. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.228.82.253 (talk) 18:42, 25 September 2014 (UTC)
Adding a section about criticisms of their business model should temper the overall tone, but a re-write for NPOV would still be welcome. LeeColleton (talk) 11:49, 13 November 2014 (UTC)
- That might have been a valid comment back then, but now, it really is more balanced coverage, especially with the sections about the slow speed of its new 2Ku service, its roach motel strategy, the class action suit vs. Gogo (with the judge's comments) and about the fake citations it was producing, with more quotes about the seriousness. Peter K Burian 17:01, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
Notability
editToday alone there are 387 news articles about this product, because of the Delta Airlines endorsement and agreement to install it in all their planes. That should establish notability I think. The additional citations on the article provide good secondary source reviews. Does anyone disagree? Or should we remove the notability tag now that this product is so newsworthy? - Owlmonkey (talk) 03:48, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
Security risks
editI think the security section is very misleading. SSL, correctly used, does indeed protect against MITM attacks. That's what it's for. (Easy to document if anybody disagrees) We ought, at a minimum, to point out that Gogo on a plane is no more and no less risky than using any public wifi hotspot; a risk which most people think is pretty moderate. I would be okay scratching the entire section. Asrabkin (talk) 09:00, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
I concur. Found a link (http://www3.ipass.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/GogoOverview.pdf), however the open wifi is susceptible to attacks similar to FireSheep and access point hijacking (insert movie plot here). Additionally, there are rumors of trouble using IPSec VPN tunnels over the service. If I see an authoritative security review of the service I will bring it here. 141.123.223.100 (talk) 14:46, 13 April 2012 (UTC)
Purchasing Service - Caveat
editUsers of the service that frequently travel on multiple airlines should be exercise caution when making purchase decisions for a 30-day pass. The 30-day passes are restricted to the airline on which the 30-day pass was purchased. For example, if you purchase a 30-day pass on Delta Airlines, you cannot use the service on American Airlines without additional payment.
From online chat with GoGo: Alicia | 11-Oct-2009 16:50:02: The 30 day pass will only work on the airline you purchased it on.
Removed Ka-band section
editI removed the Ka-band technology section since it was copied from the Gogo website. Independent sources should be found and this section should be re-added.Sapiens scriptor (talk) 06:14, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
criticism of business model
editArticle on BoingBoing and other commentary on the web supports the characterization of GoGo's business model as a Roach Motel where service is easy to set up but hard to cancel. LeeColleton (talk) 11:38, 14 November 2014 (UTC)
Gogo was the subject of a class-action lawsuit for deceptive billing practices in 2013. (Added as separate section) LeeColleton (talk) 13:24, 14 November 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, the suit is important; I have updated the Class Action section with useful specifics from the federal Court in April 2015. Peter K Burian 16:11, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
Gogo Inflight Internet is intentionally issuing Fake SSL Certificates
editsee article. • Sbmeirow • Talk • 05:06, 21 February 2015 (UTC)
- Already mentioned at Gogo_Inflight_Internet#Surveillance_support, but I will add this ref as well. - Ahunt (talk) 14:25, 21 February 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, the fake SSL issue is serious and frankly, it was not discussed adequately since there was little practical knowledge for the reader as to how the strategy could affect the user. I added a one sentence quote from Symantec in this regard, and another quote, with a new citation, from another expert as to the ramifications of fake SSL certificates. (My motto: Give the reader knowledge, not just information)
Spectrum
editThe ATG section described Gogo's spectrum as in the 3 GHz band. This is incorrect - it's actually in the 850 MHz band. Corrected with a link to Gogo's spectrum discussion page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.165.46.20 (talk) 08:17, 26 February 2016 (UTC)

History
editMuch of the history is unsourced; and much of what is sourced is merely sourced to the company itself. This is very feeble.
(Yes, it's true that a lot of business "news" is no more than recycled press releases, so the difference may not be so important.) -- Hoary (talk) 07:47, 8 October 2018 (UTC)
