romanization
editWouldn't this be better with romanizations rather than (phonetic!) IPA? --Ptcamn 07:22, 30 September 2005 (UTC)
- Good idea, but what about having both IPA and romanization? I think they're both valid. I copied the table from the Japanese wikipedia, and it didn't have any romanization, just IPA, originally. --DannyWilde 07:31, 30 September 2005 (UTC)
Collation and wo (ウォ)
editHow do you treat modern additions (for example ウォ, wo) in collation? -EnSamulili 21:18, 27 December 2005 (UTC)
- Small kana are treated indifferently from large kana. ウォ would be sorted as うお. --Ptcamn 22:29, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
That isn't IPA. It's APA, which is IMO a lot less clear. It also presents an American bias to the information, and could disadvantage other English speakers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.183.105.112 (talk) 21:10, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
Back in 2005 it was IPA. Now it is actually Romaji, the alphabet used to Japanese with roman characters. It was never APA, which has nothing to do with Japanese. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.105.202.102 (talk) 13:55, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
ordering of しゃ, しや, じゃ, じや
editHow are しゃ (sha), しや (shiya), じゃ (ja), and じや (jiya) supposed to be ordered? Is it しゃ (sha), しや (shiya), じゃ (ja), じや (jiya) or しゃ (sha), じゃ (ja), しや (shiya), じや (jiya)? --Unnecessary stuff (talk) 03:33, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
The entry order in Japanese dictionaries is しや, じや (actually, there's no entry as there's no word starts with じや), しゃ, and じゃ.Oda Mari (talk) 05:18, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
- Funny, computer sorting is し, しゃ, しや, じ, じゃ, じや, while my dictionary sorting is し, じ, しゃ, しや, じゃ, じや.
sort し しゃ しや じ じゃ じや
- Dictionary sorting seems nonscientific. As code assignment of Unicode and SJIS is developed under consideration of sorting, I think computer sorting should be used. ―― Phoenix7777 (talk) 03:43, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry. The order depends on dictionaries/publishers. My favorite 学研国語大辞典's order after 自問 is 視野/shiya, 者/sha, 車/sha and other kanji read as sha, then 時夜/jiya, 蛇/jya...じゃあ/jyā, ジャー/jyā, 邪悪/jyāku...But 広辞苑's order after シモン・ド・モンフォール is 写/sha, 社/sha...子夜/shiya, 視野/shiya, 邪/jya, 蛇/jya...時夜/jiya, しゃあ/shā, シャー/shā. There doesn't seem to be the right order. Oda Mari (talk) 10:05, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
yi/ye/wu
editJapanese and Korean wikipedias seem to have filled in all the blanks for their tables - my Japanese isn't good enough to understand what is written in ja:ヤ行イ, ja:ヤ行エ and ja:わ行う. Wonder if it is appropriate for inclusion in English. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.148.148.216 (talk) 22:48, 20 May 2012 (UTC)
Yi and Ye are already available on the English Wikipedia under the Katakana article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.105.202.102 (talk) 13:52, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
