This is not a large company, but it has an unusual and leading position as a manufacturer of acrylic paints, which are an important new painting medium developed in the 20th century. Many leading artists today work exclusively with Golden paints. Golden has had an enormous technical impact on the development of art in the 20th and 21st centuries, especially with its pioneering of new acrylic mediums used mainly in abstract art.
The other significant brand of acrylic paints, on a worldwide basis is Liquitex.
