A fact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on August 17, 2006. The text of the entry was: Did you know ...that the first fossilised dinosaur eggs found in the world, which are also the oldest dinosaur embryos ever discovered, belong to Massospondylus and were found in Golden Gate Highlands National Park, South Africa in 1978? | |||||||||||||

Ambiguous wording
editThe phrase "The first examples of fossilised dinosaur eggs in the world," in Section 4 (Geology and palaeontology) is misleading, and in fact led to the erroneous claim in the August 17 "Did You Know..." section stating "that the first fossilised dinosaur eggs found in the world, which are also the oldest dinosaur embryos ever discovered, belong to Massospondylus and were found in Golden Gate Highlands National Park, South Africa in 1978?"
The first fossilised dinosaur eggs *found* in the world were found July 13, 1923 by Roy Chapman Andrews http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Chapman_Andrews in Mongolia. Although they were initially misidentified as Protoceratops, the current identification of these fossilized eggs attributes them to Oviraptor, a theropod dinosaur.
The Massospondylus eggs are of Triassic age, and are certainly *older* than the Upper Cretaceous (Campanian) Oviraptor fossils, but they are certainly *not* the "first fossilised dinosaur eggs found."

Park area
editWhat is the actual park area? The introduction and the infobox both say that it covers an area of 41 km² (16 mi²). However in the section "Location" it is stated that "In 1963, 47.92 square kilometres (11,840 acres) were proclaimed as a national park, specifically to preserve the scenic beauty of the area. In 1981 the park was enlarged to 62.41 km² (15,420 acres) and in 1988 it was enlarged to 116.33 km² (28,746 acres).[5] In 2004 it was announced that the park would be joined with the neighbouring QwaQwa National Park.[6]", which implies a much larger area. - Fixed. The park was amalgamated with QwaQwa National Park this year, increasing its area further. Thanks Qblik. Bláthnaid 19:07, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

GA Sweeps: Kept
editAs part of the WikiProject Good Articles, we're doing Sweeps to go over all of the current GAs and see if they still meet the GA criteria. I went through the article and made various changes, please look them over. I believe the article currently meets the criteria and should remain listed as a Good Article. Altogether the article is well-written and is still in great shape after its passing in 2006. Continue to improve the article making sure all new information is properly sourced and neutral. It would be beneficial to update the access dates for all of the sources. If you have any questions, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. I have updated the article history to reflect this review. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talk • contrib) 06:12, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
