Gallery of images
editThis article contains far too many images located within the gallery. Can they be interspersed throughout the article to compliment some of the text perhaps? -- Longhair\talk 11:12, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
- Agreed: The gallery should maybe have 6 - 9 images and a few more in the article, at the most. I can't see the point of the last 6 non-notable photos. - Shiftchange 11:24, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
- I've done a minor clean-up to the article removing un-encyclopædic and unsourced text, requesting cites in a few place, distributing some images throughout the article, and removing unhelpful images from the gallery.--cj | talk 11:31, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
Gallery images I have only just completed personally taking and uploading. Whilst improvement can always be made I feel that Cyberjunkie has removed too much content from the actual text. People search to actually find out about Goodna, remove too much of the facts and wikipedia then ceases to be a reference guide. BTW I physically live in Goodna. Goodstone 12:29, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is not a reference guide, however. It is an encyclopædia with policies requiring that content be presented with a formal tone and neutral point of view, as well as be verifiable to a reliable source. Moreover, Wikipedia prohibits the inclusion of original research. The material which I removed either failed these policies or was irrelevant to an encyclopædic entry. As for your photographs, we all very much appreciate your taking the time to both procure them and upload them to the project. However, there does come a point when images can overwhelm an article, and I think the concern here was that point had been well and truly met. Images should only be used to support an article; they should not become the focus of the article. By the way, it's great to have an editor from Goodna; it being your home shouldn't matter unless you are so passionate about it so as to have a conflict of interest. ;-)--cj | talk 14:51, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
- Meant to comment thanks to Goodstone for improving this article. - Shiftchange 10:34, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Disagreement by deletion
editFollowing comments restated again after "disagreement by deletion":
- Should be removed: "It is now known as a financial and medical commercial hub embracing multi-cultural diversity." New York and London are financial hubs, Goodna is not.
- Remove non-encyclopaedic phrasing. Various phrases read like an advertisement rather than an encyclopaedia entry e.g. "only 20 Kilometres", "Ideally located", "an easy walk", "electric BBQ facilities".
Do we really need the results of elections in pages for suburbs? This information would be massively redundant if included in pages for every suburb/geographical place in the world.- if this is standard practice then I guess it's OK to keep it. Please note that I never removed this from the page. Aj wp 17:23, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
- Should be removed: details about the local councillor which should be included in his page (if at all) rather than repeated throughout the pages for each of the several suburbs in his division.
The gallery should be removed as it adds nothing to the page - wikipedia is not a photo album for random pictures of suburbs where neither the pictures nor their subjects are in any way notable.- consensus appears to be against me on this one so I am happy to leave it as is. Aj wp 17:23, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
Goodstone, please stop deleting my contributions, the Goodna page does not belong to you. If you have a problem with anything I changed then you should discuss it here. Aj wp 10:15, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
Firstly – 80-90% of the entire content, pictures, design on the Goodna page has been completed by myself. I see that as a new user that except for a minor removal on Forest Lake that this is the limit of your contribution. Without someone stepping forward and making the effort to research, take pictures and spend considerable time to create new pages, wikipedia ceases to exist.
Financial and medical hub – Yes it is. With five major banks, over five additional financial services/mortgage brokers and five doctors, ultrasound, and related services this is a correct statement. Additionally there is a large multicultural community.
Secondly “close” does not give any definition of distance. Easy walk clearly describes distance and is clear. Comments like electric BBQ facilities are factual and I can supply further photo’s should you have doubt of this.
Election results. All top FA Class suburb articles Hamersley, Yarralumla and one other originally had election results. As I have spent extensive time examining FA Class articles first is the way this article has achieved what it has.
Local councillor information. This is an incorrect statement to state that it is repeated for each of the several suburbs in his division. No one has bothered to make a Wikipedia page for any of the other suburbs. Maybe you could divert your energies to creating a page? Information contained on the councillor in the appropriate category is factual.
Gallery – You are welcome to take pictures of new areas and add them to wikipedia. Many categories request pictures to be taken like this one had originally. Please see something like the “Ipswich, QLD” section that needs pictures taken. For the rest of the gallery it provides an easy resource to reference and access as categories in the Goodna page continue to expand.
Thank you for commenting rather than simply deleting my additions this time.
Your actions in yet again reverting my changes to the page, however, are inappropriate.
You do not own this or any other page. Several of your comments come straight from the examples on WP:OWN of inappropriately believing you own a page: "Are you qualified to edit this article?", "I/he/we/ created this article". It doesn't matter that you wrote most of the content, you don't get to say what goes and what stays. Read the policies or, at least, read the edit page: "If you don't want your writing to be edited mercilessly or redistributed for profit by others, do not submit it."
How long you or I have been editing or how much we have edited is completely irrelevant to this discussion. Your comment about Wikipedia ceasing to exist is untrue. Wikipedia needs editing at least as much as it need page creation and there is no chance at all that it will cease to exist for lack of content creation.
Re financial and medical hub: you have just provided the results of your own original research, without references, see WP:NOR. The reason I removed it rather than asking for a reference is because of how sure I am that Goodna is not a "financial hub". A Google search for the phrase "financial hub" yields references to Singapore, Hong Kong, Mumbai, Tokyo, Shanghai, London, Paris and Taipei on the first two pages. Goodna should not be listed alongside these simply because of how many bank branches it has.
"Easy walk" comes straight from real estate ads and doesn't give much better precision than "close". If you want to be precise, give an approximate distance in metres or kilometres. Mentioning electric BBQs, in my opinion, fails the WP:NOTABILITY test as well as not conforming to the policy against original research.
The lack of pages for surrounding suburbs is completely irrelevant in discussions about this page. Your suggestion that I should "divert" my "energies" into other pages sounds like an invitation for me to take ownership of some other page and leave "yours" alone. I repeat, because it bears repeating, this is not your page.
You repeat several times that information in the page is "factual" but this is not, by itself, reason enough for it to be there. Wikipedia is supposed to be more than just a collection of facts.

- Aj wp raises a few good points. Concerning the "financial and medical hub": Brisbane probably is one, Ipswich might be considered one (though that would probably have to stretch the usual meaning), but Goodna? I just found out that in Australia there are about 500 people per doctor. Given Goodna's population of roughly 8,000, five doctors are in fact substandard. There doesn't seem to be a hospital. So if someone actually named Goodna a hub, we might report it, but it would need an explicit source. I see similar problems with several other formulations Aj Wp pointed out, especially "ideally located" - says who?
- Election results: I haven't looked at other suburb articles, but since the electoral districts are larger than the suburb, wouldn't it be proper to put the detailed results on the district articles and just keep a link, probably noting the representatives? After all, those percentages don't give Goodna's votes, but those of the entire districts. Again the paragraph could use a source: "considered safe Labor seats" - by whom? -- Huon 23:43, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
Goodstone's reverts.
editI have reverted to my own edits after Goodstone changed them back to his own version. The reasoning is as follows.
Words like king, queen, prince, etc, are not in capitals unless they are being used as a name like Prince Charles. When used as nouns they are lower case, like almost all nouns in English.
The number of parking bays in the railway station is totally irrelevant to an encyclopedic article. That info belongs in a travel or regional guide. I'm not disputing the accuracy of the info, so the addition of a reference does not make it relevant. Likewise, the mention of lift access is not valid info for an encyclopaedia. All QR stations are wheelchair accessible, but it does not belong here.
I was tempted to remove the entire transport section as the opening of the rail link was already mentioned in the article, but left it to show that it is still operating.
The line "generally considered safe Labor seats" is an opinion and not relevant to an encyclopaedia.
There is no need to mention where the tables with voting results are, as they are right beside the sentence anyway.--Dmol (talk) 01:09, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
Mental asylum
editThe history section needs to make mention of the mental asylum that existed there in the recent past. Does anyone have any info on it.--Dmol (talk) 01:09, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
