Starting point
editTo straighten out this article, search all the Google documentation and find the place where they describe penalties. Hint: you won't find it because they never use the term "penalty." This article needs a new title, and should be entirely re-written. Jehochman Talk 00:49, 12 December 2017 (UTC)
- Maybe Google doesn't use that term, but everybody else calls it a penalty. --Savig (talk) 09:07, 23 March 2018 (UTC)
Definition
editI think the definition is wrong. A Google penalty is not the consequence of an update to search algorithms but a consequence of a website not abiding by Google's search guidelines (whether there's been a recent update to the algorithm or not). --Savig (talk) 09:07, 23 March 2018 (UTC)
- Agreed; I've tried re-wording, by bringing an idea from the Overview section up into the lede. Klbrain (talk) 03:26, 6 June 2020 (UTC)
